Study Skills and Homework Tips
Homework can develop your child's mind and skills, and it can reinforce classroom learning. When parents help their children with homework, they find out about what their children are learning, and they can spark enthusiasm for learning. Some strategies to help with homework and study skills are:
Limit distractions. Keep siblings separated during homework time. Tell the child to turn off his cell phone and other electronic devices.
Make it a house rule that even if the child doesn’t have homework, she must spend a certain amount of time reviewing or reading.
Have children start with their least favorite subject or most challenging assignment; get it out of the way.
Students should get organized before going to bed. Place books and homework in the book bag.
Look over your child’s homework before he starts working. Decide how long you think it should take him to finish it and help him set a time limit.
Check your child’s homework when finished. If it is quality work, place a Q on it. If it isn’t, have the child make necessary changes.
If your child continues to struggle, call your school counselor for help.
Please encourage your student to attend Help Day sessions with their teacher from 8:20 – 9:00:
Tuesdays for Math and Social Studies
Wednesdays for Language Arts and Science
