Cumberland Family News
November 18, 2024
Dear Cumberland Families,
Year after year, the generosity of Cumberland families continues to amaze and delight! Last year, we set a goal of collecting1000 boxes of cereal and exceeded that by somewhere north of 200 boxes. As a result, this year we established and even more ambitious goal of 1500 boxes and again you exceeded it by more than 200 boxes! Our grand total was:
This photo shows only a fraction of the fifth graders who volunteered to stay after school to load the boxes into vehicles. Our 1751 box total filled three vehicles and will provide cereal for the food pantry until mid-February. Congratulations to our students and to our community for this outward display of generosity and kindness to others. We will send the cereal box domino video soon. If it is possible, it was even more exciting this year than last.
We simply cannot thank you enough for supporting our efforts to help Cumberland students experience the joy of giving!
Looking to next week's break, we also take a minute to thank you for trusting us with your children, for attending the PTO events (such as last Friday's Hot Chocolate social), and for all the other invisible actions you take to send learning-ready children to school. We are grateful!
We close with two reminders:
- Volunteers: all volunteers, including field trip chaperones, have to be approved through the District process once we return after Thanksgiving break. The link to apply is below.
- Students have no school Wednesday, November 27th-December 2nd
Warm regards,
Jayne Heffron and Rebecca Salomon

Incoming 4K Visitation
With the first quarter behind us, we are now looking to help families learn about the 4K program through an Incoming 4K Visitation. All resident children who will be 4 on or before September 1, 2025 qualify to attend the 4K program. Please see details of this event (see flyer) and if you know of WFB families who do not yet have children in school, please pass the information on to them.
Friendly Reminder: New Volunteer Process Begins December 3rd
To all Cumberland volunteers; thank you for your invaluable support! Starting December 3rd, all volunteers must show their approved volunteer card upon check-in. This step helps us ensure student safety in alignment with our Focus Plan.
Who Needs a Volunteer Card?
If you’re volunteering in classrooms, chaperoning field trips, or involved in PTO after school clubs where students are present without family adults, please complete the volunteer application via the district HR Department Volunteer process link. This approval is valid for two years.
