Principal's Message
Dear God
Be with our school.
Be with the staff who work here,
Be with the children who learn here.
We pray our school will continue to be a place of great discovery, adventure and creativity.
May it be a place where we love to learn and where we learn to love,
A place where every one is respected and all are deeply valued.
Amen
Welcome Back!
We have been able to enjoy a lovely rest over the past two weeks. It s always so wonderful to come back to the smiles and waves of our students who have had this time away to rest and re-energise. The enthusiasm around the school is infectious!
I would like to welcome our new families who have joined us this week, and we look forward to a couple more starting in Week 2. I am sure that they will enjoy their time here at St Jude's, and I know that they will be welcomed in to our special community. WELCOME!
NAPLAN
NAPLAN results are going home today. It is an important day to remind families that these are just a few tests taken over a couple of days. Whilst they give us more information to add to what we already know in order to set learning goals, they don't tell you about all the other wonderful qualities your children demonstrate.
NAPLAN does not show how your child opens a closed door for a teacher or friend with their hands full, and it does not show how they include others in their games when they look sad or lonely. NAPLAN does not show how your child reaches out to a classmate who is looking sad, or tells them a joke to make them smile. It definitely does not show how your child encourages his/her classmates when they have achieved something new, how they wave to welcome visitors and how they rush to make sure the new students have someone to play with. NAPLAN can't tell you about the great goal he/she kicked today, or the wonderful sportsmanship that he/she showed at the end of the races and games.
We are very proud of all of our students and hope that you take the time to share the results with your child, praising them for what they have achieved, and encouraging further learning by setting some achievable goals with them for Semester 2.

Community Code of Conduct
This week's focus is:
Act Reflectively
At St Jude's we:
- Are actively involved to ensure we are informed about our child's progress.
- Think before approaching teachers - appropriate time.
- Act ethically in relationships in the school community and social media.
- Refrain from approaching students in relation to behaviour towards their child
- Allow adequate time for teachers to respond to concerns
- Understand that every child learns differently and that it is ok for your child to make mistakes
Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Religious Education Assessment (REA)
Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 students will complete a practice test in preparation for the Religious Education Assessment to be held in Week 3.
The REA measures student learning of the mandated content in the Religious Education Curriculum. Test items relevant to each participating year level are developed by the Religious Education Directorate at the Catholic Education Office of Western Australia. The test items consist of multiple choice, short and extended response.
As a system-wide assessment, the REA informs teaching and assessment practices in Religious Education by providing classroom teachers, school and system leaders with a ‘point in time’ snapshot of student achievement. Over time, the REA also provides information about student progress in Religious Education.
