Reading
Reading is an integral part of the first grade curriculum. Students get multiple opportunities to spend time with books - and enjoy finding fun ways to sit, relax and read!
Once a month, therapy dogs from the Community Animal Program come to Forestdale to hear stories. First graders practice reading their stories to the very willing and supportive audience (woof!). This is a highly enjoyed first grade activity.
First graders are learning math using the new I-Ready math curriculum. This is a hands on program that provides problem solving activities through real - life applications. From the pictures below, we can see that the students are enjoying these math challenges.
First graders use technology in the classroom in a variety of ways - for reading, math, spelling and handwriting practice. They are honing their technological skills while learning and practice academic content.
If you ask your first grader what their favorite part of school is - they will probably say lunch or recess. This is a favorite of most kids - and a great spot to catch some smiley faces.
Forestdale Events:
Yes folks - you read that right. The playgrounds are open! Students will be having grade level meetings on Monday to discuss safety on the playground and will then enjoy exploring and playing on them. We are so very excited! Please note - during school hours, the playgrounds are only available to the students in the school. Feel free to enjoy the playgrounds during non school hours. Please see Chris Dintino or Kara Schofield with any questions. A huge thank you to all those who helped get this enormous project done.
