News
Dear ChurchillCSD Families & Staff,
It is exciting to see the learning that is going on across the school district. The second week is the time when routines are in place and classes really get down to the business of learning. With the start of the year, there are a few key items I would like to remind us about:
Attendance and Punctuality: It is important that your child attend and be punctual at school. There is lots of learning that takes place every day and itβs important your children are in attendance. When they canβt be there, please notify your childβs school. Information about attendance is on each schoolβs webpage.
Transportation: We still encourage parents to drop off and pick up their children whenever possible. We have increased staffing in our transportation department, but we also have about 270 more students we are transporting after school, so as you can imagine the buses are very full!
Communication: We want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to communicate feedback, concerns, and all the awesome things they see happening. You can find contact information on our website or by inquiring at your childβs school.
Parental Involvement: We welcome your involvement in your childβs education. Talk to your childβs teacher about opportunities at their school. Volunteer applications are available at every school.
I look forward to seeing you this school year. Whether it be at your childβs school, an extracurricular activity, or at a community event, I want you to know we are all part of an educational community. During the course of this year, there will be opportunities for families to provide input on various topics as we work on a variety of topics affecting education. I hope you will consider having your voice heard and share your opinions with us.
I hope everyone has a great week!

IMPORTANT Health Services Information
Respiratory Illness
With the beginning of a new school year, and the close contact we have with one another, brings respiratory illnesses; Influenza (Flu), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and COVID-19.
Symptoms of all three are very similar, which makes it hard to distinguish between these illnesses. Therefore, if you think your child may have one of these respiratory illnesses, please get them tested by a healthcare provider so we can prevent the spread in our schools and community.
Medical Plan of Care for Special Diets
If your child(ren) has/have any food allergies or needs to be on a special diet, this form MUST be filled out and returned to the health staff at your child(ren's) school. You can download the form below.
Med Request Forms
Please print off the appropriate form, take it to your child's doctor to get it filled out & signed, and then turn the completed form in to the health staff at your child's school. These forms must be completed EVERY SCHOOL YEAR!
Please read Regulation 5150.0 for Churchill County School District's procedure for the administration and recording of medication.

SCIENCE IN ACTION AT CCMS!
When people ask me how the first few weeks of school are going, I find myself saying; βWe are rocking and rolling!β This expression is, by no means, meant to be negative in nature. We are TRULY rocking and rolling in every positive way at Churchill County School District! Our staff are engaged in student-led, student-active learning! This week, I had the opportunity to observe Ms. Stephanie Knightβs Flight Science class. The students were actively learning, assessing, and measuring various physical activities. These activities ranged from hopping, throwing, and skipping; and these action-packed experiments allowed the student to log their own results.
Student-led learning is important, as it empowers students to take ownership of their education. This approach to learning enables a sense of independence for our students, fostering opportunities for problem-solving skills, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the content. By giving students the opportunity to guide their learning journey, they become intrinsically motivated and invested in their success.
I want to recognize Ms. Stephanie Knight for her creative lesson planning. Her ability to facilitate such a great example of learning is to be commended. Churchill County School District is setting high goals for our kids! I am proud of our community, schools, teachers, and students!

One of the ways the Kindergarten teachers help teach students their colors is by focusing on one color each week. Last week the color was red. Students in Rachel Gonzalezβs class learned to spell the word red, sing about it, and find it in their environment. Students concluded their first week by creating red tear art hearts as their art project. The red hearts are now displayed in the hallway.
π π» Northside Early Learning Center
Pre-Kindergarten students had their first week of school last week. Students in Octavia Merritt and Montana Koplinβs class had lots of fun exploring all the different centers they will have access to this year. Students also enjoyed breakfast in the lunch room and played outside on the playground
