Our Learning Community...
What an amazing last week of school! As we close another wonderful school year, we wanted to take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks to each of you. Your involvement in your student's education, whether through attending school events, helping with homework, volunteering or simply being there to encourage and motivate, has made a significant impact. We deeply appreciate your partnership.
On Tuesday we celebrated our UTK students as they promoted to Kindergarten and our Kindergarteners as they promoted to First Grade. Then on Wednesday our Fifth Graders were promoted to Middle School! Both ceremonies were so meaningful and created memories that will be cherished forever. We are so grateful to the families that volunteered to decorate and helped create such lovely receptions. Thank you for all of your efforts!
This time of year is perfect for relaxation, adventure, and making lasting memories with loved ones.
We hope as families you are able to explore new hobbies, read exciting books, and enjoy the great outdoors. Remember to stay curious and keep learning, even outside the classroom.
Wishing you a joyous summer, full of laughter and quality time together.

LGBTQIA+ Pride Month
Pride Month is celebrated in June each year to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. Each year the San Diego Unified Board of Education adopts a Resolution in support of LGBTQIA+ Student Safety affirming the District’s committed to safety, inclusion, and affirmation for all students through developing and coordinating activities, training, and opportunities for the SDUSD community. A month of observance is one critical component of our ongoing collective resolution to continue dismantling racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist dynamics and other forms of oppression within our school system in order to maximize the accessibility of our educational spaces and facilities for ALL students.
Each July students, families, and staff from SDUSD walk in the San Diego Pride Parade. If you would like to walk in the parade with SDUSD you can check out the flyer below and register here ...
Juneteenth
Juneteenth celebrates the final emancipation of slaves in the United States and the persistent drive and determination to seek freedom, liberty, and equality in accordance with the Emancipation Proclamation issued January 1, 1863, and the 13th Amendment to the Constitution which abolished slavery, except section 1, ratified by Congress on December 6, 1865.
The accurate representation of the contributions and experiences of the African American community were, for generations, and continue to be, systematically excluded from and misrepresented in history textbooks, mainstream media, and classroom discussions teaching San Diego Unified students about Black history and contemporary events is a critical affirmation of the fact Black history is American history. The San Diego Unified School District opposes and rejects any form of oppression and pledges to support the Black community and their intersecting identities by working to achieve genuine equity, access, and success for our students, employees, and communities which we serve.
SDUSD offices and school sites will be closed on June 19, 2024 in observance of Juneteenth.
Jones Elementary Joint Use Field Public Workshop
The City of San Diego and San Diego Unified School District will be holding a public workshop to discuss the proposed Joint Use Field. Information about the meeting will be mailed to neighbors in the community this week.
San Diego Unified 2024-25 and 2025-26 School Calendars
2024-25 School Year: Start date of Monday, August 12, 2024 and an end date of Thursday, May 29, 2025
2025-26 School Year: Start date of August 11, 2025 and an end date of Thursday, May 28, 2026
Both calendars are in alignment with Education Code requirements of 180 instructional days during the regular school year and are in alignment with previous board direction to adjust the start of the school year to an earlier date in August, anchor Spring Break to the week including March 31, and to not end the school year on a Monday.
By the 2024-25 school year, semester one will end before Winter Break.
Ending the semester before Winter Break will allow students to enjoy their time off from school without the stress of studying for final exams. This change underscores the district’s broader commitment to student mental health and well-being.
