Rocky Hill Restorative Approaches Team
Did you know that Rocky Hill Middle School is the only school in MCPS with a unique structure to support the work of creating and maintaining a thriving school community. We have an RA team leader and three RA coaches, one for each grade. Ms. Stone serves as the Restorative Approaches Team Leader, Mr. Lord is the 6th grade RA coach, Mr. Barnes is the 7th grade RA coach and Ms. McCarthy is the 8th grade RA coach. Restorative Approaches is having a mindset and philosophy toward building a positive school climate and relationship building. Important components are:
Proactively and intentionally developing relationships and building community.
Restoring, repairing, or healing the school community when harm has occurred
The focus is on education, learning from mistakes, identifying and working on the root of the behavior, making deep-level change, repairing relationships, and restoring students and staff to the environment.
One of our priorities is ensuring that every student has at least one trusted adult at Rocky Hill. Having trusted adults at school can be especially valuable for students as they navigate developmental experiences. For example, more complex emotions and social situations. They are also expanding their peer relationships, learning how to navigate group dynamics, and resolve conflicts. The Rocky Hill MS RA Team works together to foster the physical, social, physical, social, psychological, and academic well-being of students, staff, and families. In addition to sharing strategies with staff and students to help develop skills and capacity, they will also be engaging parents so that you can support your child at home. Meet the Team

Holiday Giving Project 2024 Referral and Consent Form
The Holiday Giving Project has provided Thanksgiving and December holiday assistance to low-income households for over 30 years. A network of social workers, school counselors, and human service professionals refer families in need of assistance. Local non-profits, faith-based organizations, and public agencies serve Holiday Giving recipients, as donations are available. If you and your family are in need and would like to be referred for possible assistance for the holiday season, please complete this referral form to provide the required information. Resources are limited: please apply only if you and your family are truly in need. While a referral is not a guarantee of assistance, the Project helps as many families in need as donations allow.

We are actively engaged in our Fall Membership Drive right now and we need your help to meet our goals. One of our biggest goals for this year is to increase PTSA Memberships, so for our Fall Membership Drive we have some super fun incentives:
For every Grade Level that gets at least one parent/caregiver membership for 50% of the students in that grade, the Grade Level Assistant Principal will wear an inflatable costume for a day.
If we get to a 50% membership rate for the full school, the entire administrative team, including Mr. Johnson, will race against each other in inflatable costumes!
Memberships are the easiest way to contribute to the PTSA with absolutely no time commitment! Your membership helps us fund programs for students, put on safe social events, support teachers with classroom materials, and more! Pay what you can memberships are available, please email us for more info at RHMSPTApresident@gmail.com. You can purchase your membership here: bit.ly/PTSAMembershipRHMS. This drive will run through the end of September!
We are also still seeking a few positions to fill out our PTSA Board. We will be holding a Special Elections Meeting on Tuesday, September 24th at 7pm via Zoom bit.ly/RHMSPTSAMeeting. We will need members present even if you are not running to make sure we have enough to vote. If you are interested in any of the positions below, please email us at RHMSPTApresident@gmail.com. We’re happy to answer any questions.

Intramurals:
Want something to do after school? We've got LOTS of Intramurals coming up! Intramurals are an extension of our PE program and give students an opportunity to be active after school in a variety of ways throughout the year. In order to participate, students must have an Intramural Permission slip turned into Ms. Brouillard and be academically eligible from the previous quarter (minimum 2.0 GPA with no more than 1 "E" on their previous report card). No equipment is needed, and all skill levels are welcomed! All intramurals are over by 4:20. If a student can't get picked up at 4:20, Activity Buses are available to bring them to their neighborhood. Click here to see the Activity Bus Routes.
Intramurals coming up:
Tennis/Pickleball on Tuesdays & Wednesdays starting Tuesday, October 8-Tuesday, November 19; Dodgeball Intramurals on Tuesdays & Wednesdays starting Tuesday, October 15-Wednesday, October 30; Soccer Intramurals on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting November 12-21; and Flag Football Intramurals on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for the month of December.
