Cold Spring Elementary Update
A Note from the Principal
This week we started our winter district testing in FAST Bridge. This test gives us a chance to reflect on the growth of the students and gameplan for the rest of the year. It's also a good opportunity for our students to practice perseverance and trying hard things. As I see students working, a common theme is for them to stop when things are hard. While we encourage students to raise their hand when they need help, and many do, a skill that is valuable for everyone is to have the perseverance and grit to try to solve the problem first, then ask for help. What I have found is when a student is able to lay out their thinking first, a teacher is better prepared to give feedback to the student on what they need and what errors or misconceptions they have versus walking the student through the problem each time they get stuck. Like I always say, we learn the most through our mistakes! At home, encourage your child to persevere through hard things, and come along side of them to correct and guide when they need it. Together we will build resilient students who believe they can conquer anything with some good old fashioned "stick to it-ness"
Have a great weekend,
Jim
