Pastels on the Plaza Needs Your Help!
Pastels on the Plaza is a major River Oak fundraiser and will soon be upon us again! This event is an incredible local treasure that brings together artists, businesses, and our school to create beautiful pastel sidewalk paintings for our community and to raise money for River Oak Charter School.
Proceeds are divided among the classes and are a huge help for funding field trips! Every ROCS family is expected to contribute.
Date: May 14th from 10am-3pm
Location: Alex Thomas Plaza in downtown Ukiah.
Volunteer at the event. There are lots of opportunities to work booths and help your child’s class. This makes the event possible! Sell one square. This is a wonderful opportunity for local businesses to advertise and help a great cause. Reach out. You’ll be surprised how willing people are to sponsor a square! Loving family members may also want to support our school. Each ROCS family is expected to sell one square. You can sign up to
sponsor a square by completing the form on the attached brochure, or send this link to those you think may be interested Recruit an artist. Pastels requires lots of talented people.

Upcoming School Event

“If You Give a Pig a Pancake” breakfast, pajama, and read-in day!
Breakfast between 9:30am - 10:30am
Details: The Ukiah Host Lions club is bringing their pancake trailer to co-host a school wide breakfast for our students (we hope to include a gluten free option) with the Parent’s Council. Below is the sign-up link for a few donations to complete the breakfast, fresh fruit, and for a few parent volunteers to help with serving toppings. This will be a green event, so students should bring their own plate, utensil, and napkin if the classroom doesn’t have a set.
We’d also like to invite students to wear their pajamas to school (please no characters, stay within the dress code) and plan to spend the day reading and writing with their classes. Cozy pajamas, pancakes, and good books seem like the perfect combination!
Lastly, we are welcoming parent volunteers back on campus following our covid guidelines. Check in at the office for testing or to show vaccination status.
Please contact your child's teacher if you would like to read to students, help with the pancake breakfast, or more. We would love to see you!

COVID Updates
Starting on tomorrow, March 14th, students and staff on campus or at events will be highly encouraged to wear masks, but masks are not required. Here are a few reminders going forward:
- Volunteers and chaperones must be cleared through the office and show vaccination status
- unvaccinated volunteers will be tested before working with children
- unvaccinated parent drivers need to test before driving on a field trip
- staff members who are not vaccinated are required to test only once per week
- If students have cold symptoms, we will ask them to wear a mask to mitigate the spread of germs
ROCS is moving to Group Tracing, here is the guidance:
Students in “Shared Air-Space” of a COVID Positive person will be notified
Testing recommended but not required
Unless a student is symptomatic or COVID positive, they will not be quarantined
ROCS will still test if students or staff request
Adults still fall under traditional contact tracing scenarios as per CalOSHA
The CDPH Safe Schools For All Hub has been updated: https://schools.covid19.ca.gov/#schoolGuidance
We acknowledge this is a big change for our community and our team is working with students to understand that others may still wear masks. I walked through the grades to role play scenarios that may come up and brainstorm reasons why peers and staff may still wear masks.
This change is an opportunity for us to teach acceptance of others.
Lost and Found is overflowing!
We need a parent/guardian volunteer to bring items to donation centers. Please call (707) 467-1855 ex. 104 to help the school.
