The Falcon Flyer
October 4, 2024
From the Principal!
This week we got the opportunity to recognize some of our unsung heroes on campus: our Teaching Assistants and Custodians. These folks aren't always in the limelight of celebrations but I can assure you when I say, our campus couldn't function without them all. They pour in so much time, energy, and love to our entire campus and we so grateful for all they do! We also are thankful for our local Boerne Fire Department who came to visit our Pre-K students to share with them all about fire safety! The highlight for all was a tour of the fire truck! We also had the pleasure of hosting the Boerne ISD Community Leadership Academy this week. They were greeted by our Fabra Dance Team, served coffee by our Life Skills students, and joined second graders for lunch! It was wonderful for them to see some of the wonderful things that happen here at Fabra!
September 15th - October 15th is designated to celebrate Hispanic Heritage! We are delighted to have one of our very own teachers, Ms. Norato, highlighted for her passion in celebrating not only Hispanic Heritage but each background of the students' in her class. Check out the wonderful video included in this week's newsletter!
Next week will be four day week as we head into Fall Break! However, it is the final week of the first nine week grading period so it is incredibly important to have our Falcons here at school so they can finish strong! We had a fantastic week for attendance and need to continue that positive momentum!
This is our final request to consider making a donation to Falcon Funds! I again want to thank those of you who have donated to our Falcon Funds. These funds play a huge role in supporting our staff and students in after school clubs, incentives, field trips and much more. We are currently just over $4,000! If you haven't had the chance to donate, please consider doing so. We greatly appreciate your support! Donation can be via cash, check, or made here: https://boerneisd.revtrak.net/fabra-elementary/#/list
Please read through this week's newsletter for important dates, information, and exciting things happening around campus! As always, if we can help in any way, then please don't hesitate to reach out to our front office. Have a wonderful weekend!

Green Machin Run Club!
We had a HUGE turnout for our first Run Club meeting this year! Please be reminded that run club ends at 3:45pm. All cars should use the driveway off of Johns Rd to pick up their student. Parents can also park in the Lattimore Parking Lot and walk up to get their child. Please do not park in the Lattimore bus loop as that is used for Boys and Girls Club to dismiss.
This year, Fabra will again be participating in the YMCA Turkey Trot on Saturday, November 23rd. We have taken home the prize of largest group to participate for the past 3 years and are hoping to make it number 4! Below is a discount code for adults and older siblings. Just be sure to select Fabra as your school when registering. All students will be able to register at the $25.00 registration fee up until the day before the race. However, there is a section where you enter which school you attend, so it is very important that you select FABRA. We would LOVE to have YOU participate in the Turkey Trot with your student. Enclosed is a special $5.00 discount coupon for adults registering in the 13th Annual Boerne YMCA Turkey Trot, taking place on November 23rd at Boerne Main Plaza. It will be valid from October 5th through Oct. 13th at midnight.

Falcon Funds!
We have reached $4,000! Thank you to those of you who have already made a contribution to our Falcon Funds! If you have not done so yet, please consider making a donation. This is the only direct campus fundraiser that we have each year. These funds go to a variety of things to help make our students experiences as great as possible. Some examples of the way funds are used are: covering fees and transportation for field trips, purchasing awards and incentive prizes, funding after school club materials, and so much more! Donations can be made via cash, check, or with a credit card online via revtrak: https://boerneisd.revtrak.net/fabra-elementary/#/list
Thank you for your consideration in making a donation!
Thank You, Falcon Fathers!
Library News and Updates!
CAUGHT READING
We've caught quite a few Falcons reading during choice time. When students are caught reading, they get a ticket with their name on it. Every Wednesday, I pick one ticket from the jar on the announcements, and that student gets to choose from some fun library swag.
Here is this week's winner, Maeli Bassuk, 4th grade.

BOOK FAIR
This week, we will be talking about the book fair. The book fair starts Friday, October 18th. I do a lesson with the kids to talk about some of the books that will be featured and how the book fair works. Here are some helpful hints.
· Friday, the 18th and Monday, the 21st are preview days. No book sales will take place.
· Book sales start Tuesday, the 22nd, and go on until 9:00 am on Friday the 25th.
· You are welcome to come and shop with your child.
· They will be previewing the book fair and creating wish lists before they can buy any books.
· I ask that if they bring money, they put it in a Ziplock bag with their name on it.
· We do charge sales tax at a 6.75% rate.
· We take cash, checks, and credit cards.
· The book fair will be open during Fall Fest!
If you would like to volunteer for the Book Fair, here is the link for the Sign-up Genius. We need helpers for the preview on the 18th and 21st and the book sales days on the 22nd and 24th. I'm also looking for cashiers.

BOOK CHECKOUT
- Kindergarten and 1st graders get to check 1 book out each week as long as they return their book. The students will receive Ziplock bags to protect their books in their backpacks.
- 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders get to check 2 books out each week as long as they return their books. If they only return 1 book, they only get 1 book. Please remind them to use the Ziplock bags to protect their books while in their backpacks.
LOST OR DAMAGED BOOKS
If your child damages a book, please have them bring it to me. I can fix a lot of things. Make sure they bring the damaged book into the library and show it to me, and we can figure out what to do about it. I emphasize to the students that I will never be mad at them over a book.
- If a book is lost, you have some options
- You can pay the replacement cost. I will send home an overdue notice with the amount on it.
- We take cash- try to have the exact amount as I don't often have change.
- We take checks made out to Fabra Elementary.
- You can also pay using a credit card on RevTrak which you can find on our website.
- You can purchase a replacement that is used as long as it is a HARD COVER and in good or better shape.
LIBRARY SCHEDULE
Your child will come to the library for 30 minutes once a week. Here is the schedule. Please make sure your child's library book/s are in their backpack on their library day.

Calling All Falcon Fathers!!!
Spend the day at Fabra!
Falcon fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures....Would you like to volunteer for at least one day each year? During the day, Falcon Fathers may read to a classroom, play at recess, help out in P.E, eat lunch with students and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. On the day of their participation, Falcon Fathers are given a brief review of their involvement and get to wear an official Falcon Father t-shirt.
Please limit your initial sign-up to only ONE date, and additionally sign-up for the "Waitlist" slot if you would like to be notified of last minute openings that would allow you to participate again.
