Asa C. Adams School Newsletter
May-June 2024
Dear Asa Families,
The end of the school year is fast approaching. It is hard to believe the final four weeks of school are upon us. We have had an exciting year here at Asa. The fall bought us a visit with Robert Shetterly and portraits from his American's Who Tell The Truth project. Winter launched the beginning of concerts and performances. Spring moved into high gear with Show Choir, Rainbow Fish, and more concerts. The end of year certainly will not disappoint us with more concerts to come from band, orchestra, chorus and finally Kindergarten and Grade One will have their chance on the stage. We will also have the District Arts Night coming up next week. Finally, not to forget that we still have field trips, field day and water slide to look forward to before we wrap up school on June 14th.
However, before we part we want to wish our 5th graders well as they move on to Orono Middle School. We know they will do great as they transition to this next step in their educational journey. We will look forward to seeing our fifth grade families on Friday, June 7th for the Fifth Grade Celebration.
We hope the summer break on the horizon will be a time for rest, play, connection with family and friends, and most of all time to enjoy the many great parts of our beautiful state. The office will be open throughout the summer should you need to reach us.
As always, please remember in these final days of school we are here if you need us.
Best Regards,
Ms. Wyman and Ms. West
Class Placements for School Year 24-25!
A great deal of thought and consideration go into placing students in classrooms each school year. A few of the factors that we consider include best fit between peers, best fit for teaching style, student support needs, and opportunities to connect with new peers. If you have information that could help us with your child's placement for next school year, please communicate that with your child's current classroom teacher or reach out to Ms. Wyman or Ms. West.
Please note that class placement letters will be mailed to families at the beginning of August.
Friendly reminder about furry friends at arrival and dismissal!
We all love our family pets dearly and often like to bring them along during our daily activities. However, here is a friendly reminder that we have a school policy that dogs should not be on the school playground nor within 50 feet of the school entrances.
Thank you for adhering to this policy. We recognize that it is the time of year that our pooches like to be out on walks with us and this policy may not be on your radar. These are a few of our favorite friends that enjoy being on the go by land or lake.

Asa C. Adams PTO Update
Greetings All,
The PTO has been hard at work on a variety of projects this spring. We facilitated a pilot aquaponics partnership between Asa and the Aquaculture Research Institute (in Mrs. Neville’s class). The ARI students’ enthusiasm at having a partner so close. by looks as though it may lead to increased collaboration next year to the benefit of every student at Asa. We have recently submitted a large playground revitalization proposal to a local organization and hope to have good news for you on that front soon. We’ve pulled together what we think is a really good-looking memory book and look forward to having that in student hands when it returns from the printer. Finally, we celebrated our amazing teachers and staff this week with a variety of meals, snacks, and small gifts!
We'd like to take the opportunity to thank those of you that have donated money, baked goods, or a few hours to help out at an event. We see you! We appreciate you! We also need to share that the PTO will need an entirely new executive committee next year. Changes in employment status for Britt and I (Nicole) mean we will no longer be able to serve as Vice President and President, respectively. If you value the PTO’s support of teachers (discretionary funds for classroom spending, monthly coffee bars, TAW activities) and students (family events, popcorn Fridays, memory books, beginning and end of school year event support) consider becoming an officer. The PTO must have a full executive committee to continue. We're happy to answer questions about what these positions entail. Reach out at any time!
Regards,
Nicole, Britt, and Heather.
