Dear Indian Trail Families,

Welcome to November! This time of year marks the beginning of the holiday season. To help you stay ahead and make the most of this festive time, I’ve outlined a few key items below for your consideration.

Academic Updates:

Students are deep into their second quarter of learning and continue to show high interest in lessons, are asking engaging questions, and are working toward individual growth! Teachers are focusing on engaging projects and reinforcing core skills with retrieval practice and spiral review. Please encourage your children to check their grades and reach out for extra support if needed. Many teachers offer after-school tutoring and ITMS homework club is available Monday - Thursday. Please check with your child's teacher for tutoring options.

Consistent attendance helps your child thrive academically and socially. If your child is ill or unable to attend, please notify the office.

• Chronic Absenteeism occurs when a student misses 10% or more of school days for any reason. Part of the State's accountability model targets chronic absenteeism. After all, if a student isn't at school, he/she cannot learn.
• Our target is to have a school chronic absenteeism rate of 12%, which would be very good for a middle school. Right now our chronic absenteeism rate is through the roof at 20%.
• Both of my children have been out of school this year with pneumonia, so I understand that our kids get sick. However, we have many students that have been absent when they should have been in school. We need our students in school to teach them.
• Mr. Steven Templin is our attendance supervisor and will be working hard to follow up with students and families on attendance. Please help Mr. Templin and ITMS in our effort to bring that number down to 12%.

Hey, Hawk families! Don’t miss our next All Pro Dad meeting on Friday, November 22 at 7:00 AM in the Indian Trail Cafeteria. The theme this month is "What's Your Emoji?"—we’ll be talking about how we express ourselves and connect with our kids. It’s a fun way to reflect on emotions and build stronger bonds.
