Students in 3rd and 4th Grade learn about Diwali
Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most important festivals in India and is celebrated by millions of people worldwide. It typically lasts five days and symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. 4th Grade classrooms and a 3rd grade class had the opportunity to learn about Diwali. Two wonderful parent volunteers read a book about Diwali, explained how it connects with the Indian culture and how it is celebrated in India. They also showed kids samples of diyas (which is a traditional oil lamp) and other festival decorations like rangoli (a traditional Indian art form of drawing colorful patterns on the floor, sidewalk, or outside of a home.)
