Howdy Bronco Family! I hope everyone had a restful and good break. We are 16 days into the new year, and it has been a wonderful start to 2025 at Burleson Elementary. Students and teachers are conducting middle of the year assessments, and we are seeing growth across the board.
Speaking of growth…we all want our children to make good grades in all subjects and excel and win in their activities. Those successes should no doubt be celebrated. Do you know what else should be celebrated? Growth should. When we see a student struggling but making strides and gains, it is just as, if not more, important to recognize that growth. Praising growth builds confidence in our students. Let’s face it, the overall success of a student is not based on a test score or a lesson grade. Our students are so much more than that!
Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.
Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.

Hello parents,
Here are a few things we are working on this week.
-Phonics- We are working on medial sounds, alphabetizing, and letter Dd. Students will continue to work on strategies to distinguish b and d.
-Math – Comparing teen numbers and adding 1 more, or 1 less than to teen numbers.
Sight words- Continue to practice new sight words that were added this past week.
AR – read the library book to your child for at least 20 minutes, so that they can take an AR test the next day. Please continue to color the day on the calendar when you read to your child for the Book it Reading program.

We have been learning all about the sun, moon, and stars. We've practiced moon phases, learned how the sun rises and sets and how far away stars really are. They have learned so many cool facts the past two weeks, ask your child about what happens when something flies into the Earth's atmosphere!

Super second graders!!
Our year is flying by and I need it to slow down! I love these kiddos so much and I'm so proud of everything they have accomplished so far. We are working on our middle of year testing and I'm excited to see all the gains we have made. I will be in contact to set up parent-teacher conferences within the next couple of weeks to discuss your student's progress and plans for the remainder of the year. We will resume spelling tests next week. Please continue to review sight words and read every night! We are almost done with week 1 of ReadBowl and we have been reading machines!
On another note, sickness is making its way around the school please encourage your child to wash their hands, cover theirs noses, and get a good night's rest!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and enjoyed that bonus 4-day weekend we just had!! We had a great 1st Semester and have hit the ground running this 2nd Semester.
Reading:
We have begun studying poetry and students seem to be enjoying this unit. Hopefully it is something fun and different!
Spelling:
Our spelling words are also focused on poetry terms.
Language/Grammar:
We are continuing to work on subject/verb agreements and singular/plural verbs. We put these together to write complete sentences with a subject/predicate.

We are in the 2nd week of the 3rd 9 Weeks!
The year has flown by. This week we are taking the Reading, Math, and Science MAP tests.
We took this at the beginning of the year to get a baseline, and the students have really improved since then. It is exciting to get to celebrate their growth. The AR goals have reset for this 9 weeks. Please encourage your child to work hard to meet their goal. Every night, both 4th & 5th grade students need to be reading a shorter AR book and testing on it the following day. However, if their range has grown to where shorter books are too long for one night, they should read 15 minutes. Please ask your student to read to you. It is very beneficial to have someone who loves you listen to you read and encourage you. It would also be great if you could read to them.
Don't forget the 2nd Quarter Celebration this Friday at 8:45 am.

¡Estamos en la segunda semana de las terceras 9 semanas! El año ha pasado volando. Esta semana tomaremos los exámenes MAP de Lectura, Matemáticas y Ciencias. Tomamos esto a principios de año para obtener una base y los estudiantes realmente han mejorado desde entonces. Es emocionante poder celebrar su crecimiento. Fabulous 4th & Marvelous 5th Grade Math
-In 4th grade, we finally wrapped up fractions. We did stay a little longer than I anticipated, but we had to work on some tests we had to get done.
We will start learning different kinds of graphs. The students will be expected to not only create a frequency table, a dot plot and stem and leaf graph, but also to be able to read them, too. The questions start to get a little more complex than just asking them to name the one that has the least and greatest, but they are always fun to work on.
-In 5th grade, we just wrapped up fractions, also. Now, we will go on to 2D shapes and learn how to classify them in hierarchy of sets and subsets using graphic organizers based on their attributes and properties. Then we will learn formulas to get their perimeter, area, and volume and slowly going on to measurement conversions.

Parents,
I would like to remind you that if your child did not pass their vision and/or hearing screens, they need to be taken to the appropriate physician as soon as possible. I have sent another letter home with your child this week. The physician needs to fill out and sign the bottom portion of the referral letter and it needs to be returned to the office. These visits are completely covered by Medicaid. If your child does not have vision insurance or Medicaid, you may qualify for a vision voucher. Please let me know as soon as possible if you need the form to request a voucher. If your child cannot see or hear, they may be struggling in the classroom. Therefore, it is in your child's best interest to have a professional examination.
We have had several students out this week with the flu. If your child is running a fever of 100.4 or higher, please keep them home. They may not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol or motrin. Please be diligent in reminding your children to cover their mouths and wash their hands frequently.

El médico debe completar y firmar la parte inferior de la carta de remisión y debe devolverla al consultorio. Estas visitas están completamente cubiertas por Medicaid. Si su hijo no tiene seguro de la vista o Medicaid, es posible que califique para un vale de la vista. Por favor, avíseme lo antes posible si necesita el formulario para solicitar un bono. Si su hijo no puede ver ni oír, es posible que tenga dificultades en el aula. Por lo tanto, lo mejor para su hijo es que se someta a un examen profesional.
Hemos tenido varios estudiantes fuera esta semana con gripe. Si su hijo tiene fiebre de 100.4 o más, manténgalo en casa.
