Distance Learning
I hope this letter finds all of our Sycamore Families doing well. I know your students have all been very busy this last week, completing assignments and checking in with classroom teachers. This is no easy task for families. We appreciate the work that you are doing to support your students academically and socially. I was in a Zoom meeting yesterday with 4th grade students and I got to hear from them how they are feeling right now. One student said, "I am thankful for my parents because they are taking care of my sister and I while working and being in quarantine." They also shared some of the things that their families are doing to maintain some normalcy, which are so important.
On Thursday, 4/30, I hosted a Coffee with the Principal. During that meeting, I discussed with families some updates regarding the school closure. As of right now, we do not yet have an end date for our campus closure. I know that Governor Newsom's announcement brought up a lot of questions this week. The School Board is meeting on Tuesday 5/5 and we can expect an updated message to come from the district in the coming week.
One question I received was about paper work packets. The paper work packets for TK-8th grades will continue to be provided by the district. New packets will be released on the following dates: 5/11, 5/26, 6/8. Both paper packets and school lunches can be picked up at the district office. Lunch schedules are posted below.
A silver lining to this closure is that our construction team has been able to start work on our new library building at school. They were scheduled to start in June, but it looks like they will break ground in the next few weeks! The library building is scheduled to be finished by the end of next school year. I know we can't wait!
Expect to hear from me next week regarding a digital Book Fair that Mrs. Fazekas has been working on. She is interested in getting more high quality books into our students hands, so she has set this up with Scholastic with FREE book shipping for our families.
Counselor's Corner
Military Family Counseling: If you are a member of a military family or if your child was previously working with our on site MFLC counselor, Donna Castelli, she is still providing services and would love to hear from you.
Due to the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic, MFLCs and Child and Youth Behavioral MFLCs (CYB-MFLCs) will be transitioning temporarily to the provision of MFLC services via a Video Teleconferencing and Telephonic model to continue support to your military community. The provision of a remote offering is the most effective way to protect our MFLCs, service members and their families at this time. We are pleased to announce this temporary capability to provide continuity of care in your local community.
The model of MFLC and CYB-MFLC telehealth is below.
Support for Adults:
- Telephonic and video non-medical counseling
Support for Children and Youth:
- Individual video non-medical counseling sessions for minors age 13 to 17 (parent or guardian must be available at the start of each video session to give parental consent and provide line of sight requirements)
- Family video non-medical counseling for minors 6 to 12 years of age (parent or guardian must attend each session)
Donna Castelli can be reached at 619-451-6768, her confidential phone, Monday through Friday 8:00am-3:00pm, to establish a telephonic or video non-medical counseling appointment.
