A Message From the Principals
Dear Barrington Families,
We’ve had another fantastic week at school, and we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our families. Your attendance at conferences and support at the book fair made this week extra special. A special shout-out to our amazing volunteers who helped make the book fair a success—we couldn’t have done it without you!
Thank you also to our wonderful PTO for providing delicious meals for our staff during conference nights. Your generosity and support mean the world to us and were so appreciated by everyone.
We also want to thank all of our field trip volunteers for helping create fun and enriching experiences for our students. Your time and dedication make such a difference!
As we head into fall break, we encourage everyone to take time to relax and recharge. We hope you enjoy this well-deserved time off with your family and come back refreshed for the exciting weeks ahead.

Building News:
A Create Bravely-Family Night
We are thrilled to announce that Upper Arlington will be hosting the Progressive Education Network (PEN) National Conference at Wickliffe this year! The theme of the conference will be The Space Between: How Progressive Education Fosters Curiosity, Creativity, Community, and Connection. This is the first time a public school has been given this honor, and we’re excited to showcase the uniqueness of our school district in offering progressive programs. The planning team has curated an incredible lineup of events and guest speakers that will provide thought-provoking discussions on progressive education for educators across the nation. To learn more about PEN and the conference please visit: progressiveeducationnetwork.org
One of the many highlights of the PEN conference is author Peter H. Reynolds, author of beloved books such as "The Dot" and "Ish". As a bonus opportunity for our progressive education families both at Barrington and Wickliffe, Peter H. Reynolds has graciously offered to host a Create Bravely Family Night. This special event is designed to celebrate creative thinking and strengthen family connections through interactive activities and a film festival.
When: October 18th 5:00-6:30 pm
Where: Wickliffe Elementary School
Cost: Suggested Donation: $10 per person. (If you would like to contribute more, we welcome additional donations. All proceeds will be donated to the 2024 PEN conference.)
Ticket Info: Limited Tickets Available: Register here before they’re gone! Barrington families are asked to log in as a guest and proceed to the Wickliffe PTO site to get their tickets. We have a limit of 400 tickets available to share amongst our progressive education families (Wickliffe and Barrington)
Volunteers Needed: Sign up here to assist with set up/activity tables/clean up
For any additional questions, please contact the Wickliffe PTO Presidents at: wickliffepto@gmail.com
We look forward to seeing you at Create Bravely Family Night!
A Huge Shout-Out to Our Amazing Garden Team! 🌱
We want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate our dedicated garden team for all the incredible work they do for our community and surrounding communities. The garden not only beautifies our school grounds but also serves as a valuable resource for learning and connecting with nature. Thank you for your hard work and commitment to nurturing our environment and enriching the lives of our students and families. Your efforts truly make a difference! This growing season we have given over 40 pounds of produce to First Community’s Heart to Heart Food Pantry and more than 30 pounds of produce to the Hilliard Food Pantry Plus. Both serve the Upper Arlington area.
Elementary Explorations News:
Our students are having a blast in Explorations! From hands-on experiments to creative projects, they’re diving into exciting activities that spark curiosity and learning. Be sure to check out more highlights and interactive content here to see what your child has been up to—it’s a fun peek into their day!
Background Check Requirement for Field Trip Volunteers
We are so grateful for the many wonderful parents and guardians who generously volunteer their time to support our students, especially during field trips. Your involvement truly enhances the experiences we’re able to offer!
As a reminder, district policy requires all parent volunteers attending field trips to complete a background check. This helps ensure the safety and well-being of our students. Background checks can be completed at Mincy (1619 Zollinger Road) from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Please note that they are closed for lunch from 12:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
If you plan to volunteer on an upcoming field trip and haven't completed your background check yet, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible. Volunteers will not be permitted to attend the field trip without this background check completed. Thank you again for your continued support and involvement in our school community. We truly appreciate you!

Making Tracks for Bobcats
On October 4th, the Barrington Elementary School community came together to Make Tracks for Bobcats and support educational experiences, speakers and field trips this school year. With much thanks to the many sponsors, donors, volunteers, students and staff who contributed to this year’s event, we had a record-breaking year with nearly $40,000 raised. Thank you to everyone who played a role in making this our best MTFB yet!
The top fundraising classroom, Ms. Benton’s 4th Grade Class, raised $2,634 and is the winner of a pizza & ice cream party later this fall. Congratulations!

General PTO Meeting
Join us for our first PTO General Meeting on Wednesday, October 23rd from 12:00-1:00 PM. This is a great way to hear the latest happenings at our school and learn of upcoming volunteer opportunities. Everyone is welcome to join the meeting!
Cafeteria Volunteers
Thank you to everyone who continues to volunteer in the cafeteria. While spots have filled up quickly, we do still have openings. Please also check back frequently as things come up and spots tend to open up last minute. We ideally want to have four volunteers per day, so if you are able to help with a shift that opens at the last minute, we greatly appreciate it. As a reminder, please review the detailed instructions in sign-up and reach out to Cameron Smith at cjcutillo@gmail.com with any questions.
Election Day Bake Sale
Calling all bakers, treat makers, shoppers & generous community members! We are gearing up for Election Day on Tuesday, November 5, 2024! Each year we host a bake sale in the Barrington cafeteria to raise money for the PTO. We are in need of baked goods & snack donations, financial donations (we can shop for you!) and parent/student volunteers to sell the treats. With this being a Presidential election year we need lots of donations! There will be no school that day, so we strongly encourage your elementary students to join the fun and work the table, practicing their math skills and engaging with our community members. Please click the link here to contribute or sign-up for a shift.
UA Arab/Muslim Community Meeting with UA Schools
Are you part of the Arab/Muslim community in Upper Arlington? Join us for a special meeting with Dr. Nidhi Satiani, UA Board of Education member and Dr. Bob Hunt, UA Schools Superintendent to discuss important matters related to our community. This in-person event is a great opportunity to connect with UA schools decision makers and have your voices heard. Let's work together to build a stronger relationship between our community and the schools. Don't miss out on this chance to make a positive impact for our kids. The meeting will be held Friday, November 15th from 6:00-7:30 PM in the Education Foundation Room at Upper Arlington High School. RSVP here.

Please send your photos in for the yearbook. We will collect now through February 2025.
