A message from Holly Bevilacqua, COO
As the leaves fall and the weather turns cooler, our thoughts naturally turn to the upcoming holiday season. Family traditions create cherished memories, so let’s make this time special together!
Consider activities like apple picking, baking pies, playing outside, or enjoying a hike with your children. These moments are perfect opportunities to talk about sharing and caring—the true spirit of Thanksgiving. We encourage you to teach your children the joy of giving, whether by donating to a soup kitchen, supporting a charity, or participating in our Food Drive-Thanksgiving Baskets and Giving Tree in December. These experiences help cultivate compassion in our little ones and foster gratitude for all they have.
Additionally, you will soon receive turkey feathers for your family to decorate! We invite you to get creative and return them to school so we can proudly display them on our big family turkey!
We look forward to a joyful and exciting holiday season. Thank you for making Carelot such a special place. Wishing all our families a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with love and gratitude!

Reminders:
Flu Shot Reminder: It’s time to get your child’s flu shot! As per Connecticut State Law, all children attending childcare must receive a seasonal flu vaccine if they are between 6 and 59 months old by December 31, 2024. If your child turns 6 months old after that date, they will need to receive the vaccine at that time as well.
Updates to Your Information: Please remember to notify the office of any changes to your phone numbers, employment, addresses, or emergency pickup contacts. This ensures we keep accurate records and can update your child’s teachers accordingly.
Lunch Guidelines: For children staying at the center during lunchtime, please send them with a nutritious lunch. If you need lunch ideas, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher or the director. Our centers have a microwave and toaster oven available. If you include items that need heating, please use a non-breakable, microwavable container. Due to state licensing regulations, Carelot is unable to prepare food for your child. Don’t forget to label your child’s lunch with their name and the date!
Question of the month "What are you Thankful for at Carelot?"

Apple picking
Pumpkin carving and then baking the seeds in the oven to eat!
I love anything we do with pumpkins, paint them, carve them, make pies!
One of my most favorite activities to do in Autumn is to take the children outside to explore the many wonders of the season. Going on a nature walk and collecting leaves to bring inside for art activities and science lessons. Leaf rubbings, drawing leaf people, reading Autumn stories, having conversations why leaves change colors are just a few fun activities. I enjoy having a scavenger hunt outdoors to allow the children to find apples hidden, tiny pumpkins, seasonal stickers etc. Oh the beauty of autumn!
going to get apple cider donuts at Scotts stand and getting a pumpkin to decorate
Collecting pretty leaves to do art with 🍂🍁🍃
My favorite family activity to do is our Halloween movie night! We pic a Halloween movie, create a good menu related to the film, print it out and paint our pumpkins! We’ve done it two years in a row now! Looking forward to this years!

CENTER NEWS:
Our Centers are now in the full swing of the school year. Our curriculum for November will focus on "What's inside Me?" The children will learn about Body Parts, Feelings and Emotions, and being Thankful. Each day our teachers provide the children with learning experiences that will focus on these "themes." Throughout the day, the teachers assess the children's abilities and focus lessons on each child's needs. This is how we assess the children and can meet each child's abilities.
Our staff uses a process of documentation that aligns with the CT Early Learning Standards called DOTS to record children’s growth and development. Through photographs anecdotes and children’s work samples, Teachers put together a visual account of each child’s accomplishments. Using recognized developmental milestones, growth in the following seven areas of development are assessed: Portfolios and Assessment in our Centers: NAEYC Standard 4
1. Thinking, Reasoning, and Problem Solving
2. Emotional and Social Competency
3. Language and Communication
4. Gross Motor Development
5. Fine Motor Development
6. Reading and Writing Development
7. Creative Development
The Portfolio process recognizes and celebrates that all children develop at different rates and with various strengths. Collections are completed for fall and spring and kept in their portfolio binder as long as the child is enrolled in the program. At the end of the child’s enrollment, the portfolio becomes a memento to be taken home and treasured.
This collection represents the child with distinct interests, backgrounds, skills, and desires. Teachers will meet with you in family/teacher conferences twice a year to share these treasured collections and celebrate the accomplishments of your child.
