Pendle Hill Public School News
Term 3 Week 6
A Message From The Principal
Dear Parents/Carers,
We enjoyed celebrating Father's Day with a sausage sizzle and games. It was wonderful to see so many dads at school with their children. Thank you to all of the dad's that were able to attend, children enjoyed sharing time with you at school. Research shows that parent involvement in school contributes to children's success at school. Having strong partnerships with parents is very important to us as a school.
We will be making our 2025 preschool placements soon. Please make sure you have your child's application in if you wish them to be considered for a place. Preschool education supports children's development and improves their long term educational success. We are very lucky to have a Department of Education preschool with exceptional staff on site. Don' t forget to get your applications in.
We are awaiting for our electronic gates to be fully installed. It is unclear when the full handover will occur. Currently the Smith Street gate is locked during the day and entrance is via Pendle Way. The gate is opened for EI parents at 11.30 am and preschool parents during the day if you ring the office. Once the gates are fully operational they will be shut soon after morning bell and opened at 2.45 pm in the afternoon. If you need to enter the school during the day you will need to buzz in from the gate. We do ask that parents keep daytime visits to a minimum to reduce the impact on the office as staff have to answer and admit each person who rings the gate bell.
We are at the time of year where there is a lot of staff and student illness. Children should only come to school if they are well. It is very difficult to replace teachers if they are absent as there is a shortage of casual relief staff available. Unfortunately this is a state wide issue which has been ongoing for a few years. We are sometimes not even able to book a casual a week or so ahead for a known absence. When we are not able to replace sick staff we either collapse other programs such as EALD and that teacher will take the class or we sometimes split classes. All class teachers leave some work for their class to do if they are split into other classes. We try to minimise as much as possible disruption to classes.

Book Character Parade.
Preschool had a wonderful time dressing up in our favourite book characters to celebrate Book Week. Children were excited to wear their costumes and join in with our whole school Book Character Parade. During the parade children loved seeing family, friends and teachers they knew and a variety of book characters they were familiar with. This was a lovely experience and a great way to connect with our school community.
Please check our website gallery for more pictures.

Ice Block Tickets- If ice blocks are ordered the child will receive a brightly coloured ice block ticket that they can come to the canteen to collect their ice block when they have finished their meal. This will give them a chance to eat any food before holding an ice block.
Allergens/dietary: See attached Allergen chart, all items are labelled with the allergen on the spriggy schools website for each item. Every item ordered has a separate label and any child's allergies are printed on each label. We take great care to make all items for children with allergies separately, so you can rest assured we take this very seriously. We do not have nuts in our canteen ingredients.
Operations- We have a dedicated Food safety Supervisor at the canteen and are confident we will maintain our 5 star food safety rating at this canteen. The canteen manager is Juliana and she can't wait to meet all the children.

Attendance News
Attendance Matters
We want to do all we can to be sure your child achieves their potential and enjoys being in school.
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning .
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day per fortnight, that's 4 weeks of missed learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 1 year of lost learning.
A reminder that planned travel should only be taken during school holidays and students should be at school every day during school term, right from beginning to end.
Notices and Reminders

Kindergarten
We are taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2025. Children must turn five by 31.7.25 to start Kindergarten next year. Please contact the office if you wish to enrol your child. You can enrol online at
https://ehub.enrol.education.nsw.gov.au/ , Please ensure you enrol soon so your child is invited to orientations etc and we can make sure you have completed all necessary paperwork. Children must start school in NSW by the year they turn six.
Preschool
Children must turn 4 before 31 July 2025 to start at our preschool next year. The preschool expression of interest form can be collected at the office. The preschool will runs on full day sessions in 2025 with children attending five day fortnight. Preschool enrolment applications must be submitted before 1 September, 2024 in order to be considered for the first round of places.
The preschool program is a one year program for children in the year before they commence formal schooling. Children are only eligible for preschool for one year before they commence school. We are happy to discuss your child with you and offer advice if you are not sure of when they should commence preschool in 2025.
Why is Preschool important?
Preschool helps children develop many vital skills. It particularly assists children to develop important social skills which make a huge difference to their learning in all areas. If children come to school being able to better follow a teacher direction, sit still and concentrate in a group of children and they are ready to start learning the curriculum as soon as they begin school. Our preschool program focuses on these skills as well as many other areas and prepares children for learning in Kindergarten.
