“WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT YOU CAN’T SEE THAT ARE IMPORTANT? I WOULD SAY JUSTICE, TRUTH, HUMILITY, SERVICE, COMPASSION, LOVE. YOU CAN’T SEE ANY OF THOSE, BUT THEY’RE THE GUIDING LIGHTS OF A LIFE.”
- President Jimmy Carter
Message From Superintendent Mueller
Happy New Year, CUSD!
We are back in full swing after winter recess and it’s nice to see students jump right back into learning mode after the long break. It’s inspiring to see our teachers make learning relevant by incorporating current events into age and grade level lessons.
While Coronado has not been directly impacted by the wildfires, with our region under a red flag alert many of our staff and friends are facing power outages. A convenient way to monitor local conditions and receive the latest updates is to visit Alert San Diego and download the SD Emergency app. You may also consider registering your cell phone and email address with Alert San Diego to receive evacuation orders/warnings, protective actions, and disaster-related information.
The CUSD Governing Board will hold its January meeting next Thursday (1/16) at 4pm. The meeting agenda will be posted on the website at 4pm on Monday: Board meeting information
Congratulations to our CHS girls basketball team on their amazing 8-0 start to the season. You can watch this talented team in town tonight as they take on Lincoln HS at 6pm in the CHS gym. Even better, make it a sports night and split your time between the gym and the field and support the girls soccer team as they take on Point Loma at the same time. CHS at 6pm tonight….Go Islanders!
Check out the FULL CHS ATHLETICS CALENDAR for all sports events.
Have a safe and restful weekend,

Caught Being Awesome!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Ms. Jennifer Henry is so compassionate and supportive!! I am thinking of one specific student that she supports on my caseload, but I know she's supportive to all the students she engages with. Ms. Jennifer makes sure that the student she is working with feels supported while also encouraging independence. She has this calmness about her that staff and students can feel whenever you're around her. SSES is so lucky to have her on our team :)
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2024-2025 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $30 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
If you do not purchase the Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student’s device, the following fees will apply should damage occur:
Damage Type and Replacement Cost Plus Tax
Chromebook - Full Replacement $400
Damaged Keyboard $80
Damaged Screen $80
Damaged Motherboard $160
Damaged LCD Bezel $40
Damaged Camera $40
Lost/Damaged Charger* $22
Lost Case* $19
*Accessories are not covered by the Mobile Device Protection Plan.
