Long Course 2024 Season Volunteer Point Requirements
To be able to run meets, it is imperative that we have the proper number of volunteers. As part of the GSCY community the expectation is everyone volunteers; if you have a swimmer participating in a meet then you should volunteer, regardless of the points requirement. As the long course season is shorter than short course the points requirement reflects the smaller number of opportunities to achieve your points.
To summarize the points requirement:
- Each single swimmer family will be required to earn 3 points during the season.
- Families with only one swimmer on a Waves roster do not have a points requirement.
- Each multi swimmer family will be required to earn 5 points during the season.
- Families with a Waves Roster swimmer and a swimmer in any other age group are considered single swimmer family (thus 3pts required).
- Practice Group Parents will earn 1pt for fulfilling the requirements of being a team parent.
- As we did for short course - all jobs worked at non-GSCY hosted meets (Invitationals) will be counted towards the point requirement. Note that these opportunities are very few and the jobs required at these meets are determined by the host team - usually no more than 2-3 timers per session.
- For “prelim, final format” meets parents assigned to time in finals because their swimmer makes finals will NOT earn a point for timing finals.
- The job portal will be used for GSCY hosted meets AND invitational meets to properly track achievement of points throughout the season.
- If you work a job that you did not sign up for in the portal (subbing in last minute for a no-show, etc.), you have 1 week from the session date to notify the volunteer coordinator to have it updated in TU. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the point worked. This rule is essential to ensure the portal is constantly updated and limits the amount of work at the end of the season to circle back to parents that said they worked something months prior.
- Failure to meet your points obligation for the season will result in a fine of $75 per point; with the goal being everyone helps out as required, or more, and thus no one gets a fine at the end of the season.
Announcements will be sent for each GSCY hosted meet as well as Invitational meets to alert when the job portal will open and close. The portal is first come, first serve so logging on when the portal opens is the best chance to get your pick of job you prefer.
Thank you for your continued support!
LC Practice Group Parent Volunteers Still Needed!
Thank you to our parents who have stepped up to volunteer to be a Practice Group Parent for the long course season! You will receive an email within the next two weeks with more information about planning events for your group.
We still have some volunteer spots to fill! The following groups currently DO NOT have any parent volunteers:
- Senior 1
- Senior 2
- Senior 3
- Senior 4
- Junior 1
- Junior 2
- Lightning 2N (1 remaining spot)
- Lightning 3N
- Lightning A South (1 remaining spot)
- Lightning B South (1 remaining spot)
- Thunder 1N
- Thunder 2N (1 remaining spot)
- Thunder 3N
- Thunder A South (1 remaining spot)
- Thunder B South (1 remaining spot)
- Waves N
- Waves S (1 remaining spot)
In order to provide our athletes with a social activity to relax and connect with their peers, we need your help! Simply put, we cannot hold these events without you.
As a reminder, a GSCY Practice Group Parent works alongside another parent and the practice group coach to plan parties and special events for their practice group outside of the pool. Given our shorter LC season, the minimum expectation is to have at least 1 group get-together during the season. This is just a guideline and you’re free to plan whatever is best for the athletes. You may also reach out to other practice groups and plan joint events. This job will fulfill 1 volunteer point.
If you are interested in being a Practice Group Parent, please sign up here or complete the form below. The deadline to sign up is Friday, May 17, 2024. Please contact myralyn@gmail.com if you have any questions.
