Vikan Knights, ARMOR Up!
From Principal Velez
Dear Vikan Middle School Families,
Welcome back to the 24-25 school year! I hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready for an exciting new chapter at Vikan Middle School.
This year, we are specially thrilled to continue working toward our district's mission: "In partnership with our families and community, we empower EVERY Knight today to take control of their future tomorrow." Our commitment to this mission drives everything we do and fuels our passion for creating meaningful educational experiences.
At Vikan, we believe that collaboration with our families and community is crucial to our students' success. We are dedicated to working hand-in-hand with you to support and guide your child through their middle school journey. By joining forces, we can help them develop the skills, confidence and resilience they need to shape their own futures.
This year, we will continue to build on our strong partnership and create new opportunities for growth and learning. Our goal is to empower every student to take ownership of their education, embrace their potential, and pursue their dreams with determination.
Thank you for being a vital part of our school community. Together, let's make this a memorable and impactful year for all our Knights!

Athletics
Welcome back to the 2024-2025 school year. Vikan parents and students, we are excited for another year of athletics here at Vikan Middle School. We will be having our Fall Sports (Football and Girls Volleyball) parent meeting on Tuesday, August 6th at 5:00pm in the cafeteria. Please plan on attending if your son/daughter is planning on playing one of these sports this fall. First day of practice is Tuesday, August 13th, immediately after school.
Students will need a Sports Physical to participate, so please plan accordingly. We would like to recommend scheduling an appointment as soon as possible. Student's must have a sports physical before they are able participate in any sport. Students in 7th or 8th grade are able to participate in football, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, track and soccer. 6th grade students can only participate in the spring sports, track and soccer.
We look forward to another successful year of athletics here at VMS. Go Knights!!
Drop Off & Pick Up Plan at Vikan
Please be aware that the dirt lot located at 8th and Southern will be blocked while they paved it. It is estimated that it will be ready by the end of October. While this is taking place, we will have drop off and pick up alongside Jessup Street and 8th Avenue. We will send more detailed information in our next newsletter.
Let's Get Ready!
We want this to be a successful year for our Knights. As parents/legal guardians, we ask your support in completing the following steps to ensure a smooth beginning for your child:
Free & Reduce Lunch Form:
If you are not able to pay for the required fees, please fill out the Free & Reduce Lunch Form. If your child qualifies, almost all of their fees will be waived. This is a great way to take care of fees! Forms are available in our main office and the link to the application is available for you at the bottom of this newsletter.
Sign the Student Handbook Form:
Your child's Advisor will be sending a form for you to sign. Please review the Student Handbook form when you receive it.
Lockers:
Students who would like a locker must request it and have their parents/legal guardians sign the Locker Contract. In order for a student to receive a locker, all fees must be paid prior to being given a locker.
School-Wide Expectations
- Electronic Devices (cell phones, earbuds, gaming devices, etc.) must be out of sight from 8:30 AM until 4:32 PM. Vikan is a cell phone free zone, which means that our students are not allowed to to use their phones while at school. For more information on this, please visit Superintendent Policy JICJ.
- e-Hall Pass will continue to be used this year. Every student must request permission through e-Hall pass to go anywhere in the building. In order to ensure our Knights safety, we want to make sure that we know where they are at all times.
- Chromebooks will be utilized exclusively for learning while at school. In order for us to maximize their learning, we want to ensure our Knight utilize their Chromebooks for the intended purpose.
We ask your support as we implement these school-wide expectations. The ultimate goal is to maximize learning and minimize bullying, harassment and negative interactions.
Thank you!

Student Morning Arrival
Please help us out by making sure that your child is at school no later than 8:15 AM. We are having a large number of students arriving after 8:30 AM. If you drop off your child at 8:30, they are already 5-10 minutes late to class. It is imperative that you support your student in making sure that they get to school on time...on time is 8:15 AM.
If your student is arriving after 9:00 AM, you will need to check then in at our mail office.
NO Pick Up After 4:15 PM
If you need to pick up your student early from school for an appointment, please make note that you need to arrive prior to 4:15 p.m. Also we will not be calling down your student to be picked up early until the parent or guardian have arrived at our office.
Starting at 4:15 our entire team is getting ready to ensure the safety and security of 600 Kights at dismissal. We cannot spare any aduls to go get students as this poses a safety concern.
