Attendance Matters!
Northview’s average daily attendance for the week of 2/3/25 to 2/7/25 was 93.2%.-- a 0.1% drop from last week and a 2.6% drop from two weeks before. Let’s keep striving for even better attendance as we approach the first grading period!
First Grading Period:
Our first grading period of the second semester ends on Friday, February 21, 2025. Please check in with your teachers as they are updating their gradebooks. Parents will see their official grades on Aeries on March 6, 2025.
Oh, the Places You'll Go!
This past week students in our Advanced Photography classes and members of our Asian Cultural Appreciation Club went on a field trip to the Huntington Library. Even though it was pouring rain, our students had a great time. They had a private meeting with the Linde B. Lehtinen Senior Curator of Photography. She brought out various photos and books from their archive that guests don't normally get to see. What a great trip!
Athletic Update:
Congratulations to our girls basketball team and boys soccer team for their amazing effort during the first round of the CIF playoffs.
Congratulations to our Girls Wrestling team on earning the team CIF Title. The following students will move on to compete at Masters at Sonora High School next weekend:
Marie Saldana (3rd place), Ysabella Hinojosa (4th place), Samatha Rivera (2nd place), Mia Hooper (Champion), Marci Cueva (3rd place), Juliet Salazar (3rd place), Sumaya Lazaro (Champion), Delarie Juarez (Champion), Sophia Gomez (3rd place), Layla Juarez (7th place).
Congratulations to Northview Boys Wrestling team for placing second at the CIF Inland Division. The following students will move on to compete at Masters at Sonora High School next weekend:

As we continue celebrating Kindness month, I invite you all to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week (Feb. 14-20th). Below are some ways to show kindness each and every day.

Counseling Corner
Stay Focused & Finish Strong
As we approach the end of the first grading period, we encourage all students to stay focused and give their best effort in every class. Tutoring is available after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the Library. Additionally, Ms. Cortez is offering after-school English tutoring for seniors. If you need help with homework, essay writing, or annotating articles, join Ms. Cortez in Room C-4.

Scholarship Opportunities
Jesse Cruz Memorial Scholarship
Applications are available in the College and Career Center. To apply, students must submit an essay, transcript, and letter of recommendation. The deadline to submit is Friday, March 28, 2025.
The P.E.O. Scholarship is now available to senior female applicants who are U.S. citizens or have legal permanent residency status and are graduating with a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Softball
The Varsity and JV Softball teams have home games against Temple City HS on Tuesday, February 18 at 3:15pm.
Baseball
The Varsity, JV, and Freshmen Baseball teams have an away game against Crescenta Valley HS on Monday, February 17. JV will play at 10:00am, Freshmen will play at 1:00pm, and Varsity will play at 6:00pm.
The Varsity, JV, and Freshmen Baseball teams will also be competing in the South Hills Tournament starting Wednesday, February 19. On Wednesday, February 19, JV and Freshmen will play at home against Arcadia HS at 3:00pm. Varsity will play away at 2:30pm. On Saturday, February 22, JV and Freshmen will be away for their game against South Hills HS at 10:00am. Varsity will also play at 10:00am.
Boys Tennis
JV Boys Tennis will be home for their game against Rosemead HS on Tuesday, February 18 at 3:15pm and for their game against Garey HS on Thursday, February 20 at 3:15pm. JV will be away for their game against Nogales HS on Friday, February 21 at 3:15pm.
Track & Field
Track & Field will compete in the Arcadia Mini Meet at Arcadia HS on Saturday, February 22.

We are so excited to host our future Vikings on March 13 to give them a glimpse into Viking life!
So Cal Trades Tour - 3/17
Mark your calendars for the So Cal Trades Tour Vikings! On March 17, all of our Vikings will have the opportunity to head to the gym and explore different Career and Technical pathways. We all have approximately 40 representatives from different fields prepared to speak with you about your future!
Vikingfest - 4/3
Save the date Vikings! This year's Vikingfest is already in the works with a 70's flair! You won't want to miss this.
This is a community event open to all of our future, current, and past Viking families and friends! We will have food, games, and student performances. This is also an excellent opportunity to hear from our staff and coaches on all that Northview has to offer through our academic and athletic programs.

Attendance Matters!
Attention Vikings! This February, we have an exciting attendance challenge! If you come to school on time every Monday in February, you'll be entered into a raffle to win awesome prizes like AirPods, Stanley cups, and more! Plus, if you have perfect attendance for the entire month of February, you’ll get double entries. Don’t miss out—let's see you there!
Saturday Academic School (SAS):
We will continue to notify students and parents/guardians when students have Saturday School due to an accumulation of absences. As a reminder, Students may also attend Saturday School for extra academic support with their teachers. Students will need to RSVP for Saturday School and stay for the full day: 7:55am-12:05pm. Here is the link to RSVP for SAS (only students can sign up using their c-vusd.org login). The Spring semester dates for Saturday School are March 1, 8 & 22, April 19 & 26, and May 3 & 17. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Detention Information:
Detention is being held Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during lunch in room L-1. If students are assigned detention, they are expected to arrive on time and stay for the full time.
Attendance Committee:
We had a great turnout to our last Attendance Committee meeting including students and teachers! Please join us for our next meeting on Tuesday, March, 11 during lunch in the NHS Wellness Center.
Staff Spotlight
Mr. Torres is a veteran Northview teacher who teaches Spanish. He has graced us with his kindness and passion for the past 17 years. He enjoys sharing the language and culture with students. He loves to immerse students in the language to allow them to become fluent and knowledgeable.
Mr. Torres is a devout Catholic who attends mass every day. He volunteers much of his time with the church and feels fulfilled helping people who are struggling and in need of support.
It is a testament to who he is as a human. Selfless and compassionate. His bright light radiates. Thank you, Mr.Torres for being such a positive Viking member.
