Principal's Pen
We had another successful FunDay last Saturday! We raised a whopping $21,472 this year! This money benefits our school in so many ways. THANK YOU to all the parents and families who donated your time and money to make this event possible. Our community is truly amazing!
On Friday, May 9th our whole school has the opportunity to see TRYPS production of James and the Giant Peach! It started out as Unit B only, but some groups cancelled and we were offered enough spots for everyone. We are asking parents to send in $4 to cover the cost of your child’s ticket. If you’d like to donate extra to cover another student who may not be able to, that is an option as well. Please check your child’s Friday Folder today for the required permission slip and a place to mark what amount you’re sending in with your child. Please return these forms next week! The school will cover any student who is unable to pay.
At the end of last week our attendance was at 92.7%! We had dipped below 90% for much of the winter, but we are making a comeback. Way to go, Rams!
Unit Notes
Unit A
Unit A is excited about our Fairytale Math Night on May 1st! It will be an evening full of math fun, games, and activities your child can take home for additional math practice. We need a few supplies to ensure the night's success. If you are willing and able, please use the SignUpGenius link to contribute. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0A4EA5AE23ABFB6-56374205-unit
Next week, we will begin iReady testing. The best way to support your child during this time is by ensuring they get plenty of sleep, have a nutritious breakfast, and are encouraged to do their best. Please be on the lookout for an email from your homeroom teacher for more information.
Unit B
- We are proud of our third graders! They have been working so hard during MAP testing.
- Our ocean research is going swimmingly. You can help your student by researching their animal at home. Visiting the public library would benefit their research process. As they research please encourage them to write down facts so they can bring that information back to school to include in their project!
Unit C
Unit C students have done an amazing job beginning MAP testing this week! We are so proud of their perseverance and dedication to learning. We will begin the ELA session of MAP testing this upcoming week, 4/21 - 4/25.
It's Friday Folder week! Please remember to check your student(s) link.
Specialist News
From the Music Room
We’ve had a wonderful start to our spring trimester and are counting down to our final music classes! It has been another wonderful year of music making with the Ridgeway Rams!
Unit C is showing the culmination of all their years of music classes by playing recorder and ukulele! They are doing a fantastic job of playing their instruments and I’ve prepared a few videos of some lovely recorder playing to share with you all. A little note for fifth grade families, recorders will be going home with your fifth grader on their last music class. Before then we will continue working on them and I will express my desire for them to continue to make beautiful music with their instruments.

Unit B has just completed their final composition project and blew it out of the park! They used known rhythms of quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests as well as our newly named pitches sol and mi (high and low) to create a 4 beat ostinato to go with the song “Somebody’s knockin’ at your door”. They did a fabulous job performing their compositions for their classmates and were thoughtful in their positive feedback given to peers- way to go Unit B!
Unit A is finishing up our high/low comparative work and are learning the concept of pitch this week! We will practice pitch on pitched percussion instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, metallophones) to get a visual understanding of high and low pitches. We will also begin working towards preparing long vs. short to get our first graders ready for Unit B next year to learn their very first rhythms!
It has been a wonderful year of music making and I am forever grateful for these wonderful musicians at Ridgeway and their families.
Sing-cerely,
Ms. Meeds
An announcement from Mrs. Munsterman
In the fall, my family and I are moving to Bratislava, Slovakia for my husband's job. That means this will be my last year as Media Specialist at Ridgeway. It is a very bittersweet move because I have loved being the Media Specialist here at Ridgeway, but I'm also excited for this new adventure. We will get to learn a new language, eat different foods, and experience life in a different country. I have immensely enjoyed being part of the Ridgeway community and this school will always hold a special place in my heart. 🙂
