Dear AISB Families,
Under the theme "Modern Black Heroes," we honored the inspiring contributions of individuals who continue to pave the way for justice, kindness, freedom, and equality last Thursday, February 20, 2025.
Our students showcased their talents through captivating performances and reflections, reminding us all of the importance of standing against racial discrimination and the legacy of slavery.
We are grateful to all who joined us to uplift voices, celebrate diversity, and envision a brighter future for all. Together, we can inspire change and foster a community built on respect and understanding.
If you missed it, please don't miss the opportunity to watch the entire program below.

A Peak into Some Classrooms
Grade 12 Chemistry Lab Adventures
*Grade 12 Chemistry Lab Adventures!* 🔬
Our Grade 12 students recently conducted an exciting experiment to explore the factors affecting the rate of reaction. Using a real-life example, they worked with Vanish, a widely used stain remover, to decolorize a solution. They experimented by changing the concentration and temperature to see how these variables influence the reaction rate.
It was a fantastic hands-on experience that connected classroom learning with everyday applications.
‼️ PYP 1 Simple Science Experiments!
Grade 1 students had a blast exploring sound through two exciting experiments!
• Tuning Forks and Water
• Paper/Cloth/Tray, Rice, and music.
MYP 4 Biology Heart Dissection
MYP 4 Biology students completed a heart dissection. The purpose of this lab was to trace the pathway of oxygenated blood and deoxygenated blood as it travels through the heart. We used a heart from a cow as it is very much the same size and structure of the human heart. I was even able to obtain the heart of a baby cow for comparison.
After dissecting the heart and locating all the structures and vessels, students prepared microscopic slides of the heart tissue to look at the cardiac cells under the microscope. Enjoy the pictures!
Exploring Patterns with PYP 1 Students!
In Math, students delved into the world of patterns, discovering and creating sequences using color, shape, and size. By engaging with tangible objects, students: - Recognized and extended patterns, developed problem-solving strategies and enhanced their critical thinking skills.
MYP5 Students Exploring Acids and Bases!
MYP5 students recently dove into the fascinating world of acids and bases. They investigated reactions as examples of double displacement reactions and compared the pH and reactivity of strong and weak acids and bases. In addition, they wrote balanced symbol equations to describe each reaction.
It was an enlightening experience that enhanced their understanding of chemistry concepts through hands-on experiments.

MYP 5 Chemistry Experiments
Bravo to our MYP5 students!
MYP5 students have just wrapped up an enlightening lab where they delved into the *energy content of everyday snacks—specifically chips, biscuits, and peanuts. Using the fascinating technique of **calorimetry*, they calculated the amount of energy per gram for each type of food, gaining valuable insights into the nutritional value of what we consume on a regular basis.
Through this hands-on lab, students learned how to measure the energy released from these snacks by burning them and capturing the heat produced. This process not only taught them about the science behind food energy but also emphasized the importance of being mindful of what we eat. Understanding the energy content in our food helps us make informed choices for a healthier lifestyle.
This lab experience is particularly significant for students interested in fields such as nutrition, dietetics, and health sciences. The skills and knowledge they acquired are essential for anyone looking to pursue a career in these areas, as they provide a solid foundation for understanding the relationship between food and energy.
*Let's give a big shout-out to our MYP5 students for their hard work and dedication!* They are well on their way to becoming the health-conscious and scientifically-minded leaders of tomorrow.
