Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we embark on the second semester of the school year, we are excited to share our continued focus on literacy. Our goal is to be an A-rated campus where all students learn and grow academically. Ensuring that all students are growing and reading at grade level is a top priority for us. We believe that with your support, we can help every child succeed.
Reading at home is crucial for your child's development. It not only reinforces what they learn in school but also helps them build a lifelong love for reading. Here are some tips to support your child's reading journey:
For Lower Grades:
- Phonics and Phonological Awareness:
- Play Sound Games: Engage your child in games that focus on sounds, such as rhyming games or identifying the first sound in words.
- Read Aloud: Read books aloud to your child and emphasize the sounds of letters and words.
- Use Flashcards: Create flashcards with letters and simple words to practice sound recognition.
For All Students:
- Daily Reading:
- Set a Routine: Establish a daily reading time, even if it's just for 15-20 minutes.
- Create a Reading Space: Designate a quiet, comfortable spot for reading.
- Discuss Books: Talk about the stories and characters in the books your child reads to enhance comprehension.
Everyday Tips for Parents:
- Be a Reading Role Model: Let your child see you reading. This can be books, newspapers, or even recipes.
- Visit the Library: Make regular trips to the library to explore new books and participate in reading programs.
- Use Technology: Utilize educational apps and audiobooks to make reading fun and interactive.
- Encourage Writing: Have your child write stories, letters, or even a daily journal to complement their reading.
- Ask Questions: While reading together, ask your child questions about the story to improve their understanding and critical thinking skills.
If you feel that your child is experiencing reading difficulties, such as dyslexia, please do not hesitate to contact the school. We have action plans in place to support students who are struggling. Our goal is to provide the necessary resources and interventions to help every child succeed.
Thank you for your dedication to your child's education. Together, we can make a significant impact on their literacy development.
