Detroit Lakes Public Schools American Indian Education Department has provided age-appropriate resources and activities that introduce The Seven Grandfather Teachings at every grade level. Each month celebrates one of the teachings.
OCTOBER: Truth - debwewin
Truth is to know and understand all the seven teachings given to us by the Creator and to remain faithful to them. The Turtle represents truth because it is one of the oldest animals on our planet. The Turtle is grounded, methodical, careful, and attentive to details - important qualities for those who speak the truth. The laws of time and life are recorded on the back of the Turtle.

Call the office with messages for your child's teacher during the school day. While teachers use Seesaw and email to send information and communicate, their day is extremely busy and urgent messages through Seesaw/email might not be read in a timely manner. In the event a substitute is teaching the class, that Seesaw/email message will not be seen by the sub. The best way to communicate during the school day is through the school office. Call 218-847-9268
Call the Rossman office to report changes to your child's dismissal plan by 2:30 PM. Office staff will be sure the teacher receives the message.
If your student is absent, call the Rossman Office at 218-847-9268 and leave a message on the attendance line. The attendance assistant will call parents if we haven't received a message regarding a student's absence by 9:00 AM.
Visitors are welcome! As a courtesy, please contact your child's teacher to pre-arrange your visit. Teachers love classroom volunteers and parent helpers. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the office or your student's teacher directly. Visitors will be required to sign in and wear a "Visitor" badge while in the building.

Rossman Cell Phone and Smart Watch Policy
NEW in the Rossman Handbook this year: Expectations for student cell phone and smart watch usage in school.
Student cell phones and smart watches are not permitted during the school day. Cell phones and smart watches must be put away upon entrance to the building and stored until after the dismissal bell. Parents and guardians must contact the Rossman office with messages or communication with their students and students’ teachers. Cell phones, smart watches, or other electronic devices that are used in violation of this guideline may be removed from the student’s possession until the end of the school day.
