You're Invited!
On behalf of our Parent Ambassadors, we are excited to extend a warm invitation to our Remember Me: Día de los Muertos Celebration & Community Ofrenda!
🗓 Friday, November 1st, 2024
⏰ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
📍 John Glenn High School Quad
This event will be a beautiful and heartfelt celebration of our community’s traditions, honoring the memories of our loved ones who have passed. We invite all community members to bring a photo of their departed loved ones to place on our community ofrenda as part of this shared experience.
In addition to the ofrenda, you can look forward to an evening filled with music (with one of our talented parents DJing the event!), community, and of course, delicious churros and refreshments! Our Parent Ambassadors have been working tirelessly to make this event special for all of us, and we would love for you to join us in supporting their efforts and celebrating this meaningful occasion together.
Come enjoy an evening of remembrance, tradition, and community spirit—we hope to see you there.
Kind regards,
Jasmin Flores (she/her(s)/ella)

📚💻 ACADEMICS 🎓📝
Thank you, Eagles!

Eagle Seniors Visit CSUDH!
JGHS Counselors took over 30 seniors who are currently not in any program or pathway to CSUDH on Monday, 10/25. The seniors who attended were excited to gain a sense of campus life, to interact with current students, and to become familiar with academic programs and extracurricular activities. Their eyes were wide with all the possibilities they learned about!
NO Cell Phone Use During Instructional Time
Eagles, this is a reminder that cell phones and other electronic devices are not permitted during instructional time. Our schoolwide cell phone policy states that ALL CELL PHONES AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES MUST BE TURNED OFF AND OUT OF SIGHT DURING CLASS/INSTRUCTIONAL TIME. This means students should not use their phones at any point during class time, even if they step out of the classroom to use the restroom or go to the office. Starting Monday, 10/28, if you need to use the restroom during class time, your phone should remain in the classroom.
Cell phones and other devices, such as airpods, are permitted during snack and lunch, as well as before and after school. We take your education seriously and want to support your undivided attention to instruction and classwork. Thank you for your attention to this important expectation.
AP Exam Registration DEADLINE - 11/15
AP Students, the deadline for students to register for their AP Exams is November 15th, which is quickly approaching. Please register for all of your AP exams as soon as possible.

If is important that you do NOT try to create a new College Board account if you cannot get into your old one. Counselors will be meeting with students during the week of 11/4 to support with registration. So, if you are having issues, please know you will receive support soon!

ATHLETICS
Student Athlete Profile: Emily Mendoza
Emily Mendoza and Ms. Ocon
How long have you been playing softball?
I’ve been playing since I was about 13 years old, so around 3 years so far. I played when I was younger for maybe about a year, but seriously began practicing these last couple of years. I consider myself a utility player, but I play mostly first base.
What is your favorite softball memory so far?
That would be last year, our last practice we played backwards softball. It means everything is done backwards. If your are right handed you throw with left, if you bat right you bat left, you even run to third base first instead of first base. It was just simply fun.
What are your plans for after high school ?
After high school, I want to go to college and become a registered nurse. My mom inspired me to get into the medical field she works with OBGYNs. Right now I’m not sure what college I will attend, I’m still looking. I might go a little far and explore a new place.
Who is your favorite teacher?
I really do like all of my teachers. But Mr. Skippers class is really interesting because we learn about different case laws related to criminal justice. Plus Mr. Skipper is an awesome teacher.
