Hoover Highlights ✨
Celebrating Assistant Principal, Mr. Kelley
Last week was National Assistant Principal Week, and at Hoover, we made sure to show how much we appreciated our amazing AP, Mr. Kelley. At our staff meeting on Monday, April 1st (April Fool's Day), we honored Mr. Kelley by showing up and dressed in his favorite attire - a vest! We had a "Vest-ival of Vests" for the Best! It was fun to see how creative our staff was with the variety of vests that walked in to our staff meeting. Mr. Kelley didn't know if it was an April Fool's joke or not! 😂
Above and Beyond Award Nominee - Mrs. Rolland, SpEd Para Educator
Above and Beyond Nominee - Ms. Yang, ML Teacher
Ms. Yang was nominated for always going that extra mile for our students, staff, and families. In an already packed daily schedule of teaching students and collaborating with staff, Ms. Yang has also taken on the Lead for our Hoover Student Ambassadors program, providing opportunities for our students to develop their leadership skills. Knowing that many of our Multi-lingual students and families speak sometimes multiple languages at home, Ms. Yang ensures that information is provided in translated materials and/or takes on that extra step to reach out using our interpreters and language line. We are so thankful that Ms.Yang is a part of our Hoover Team!
Welcome Long Term Substitute Teacher
Ms. Kristine Svedberg has joined our Hoover team as a long term substitute teacher for Mrs. Hale and will be with us for the remainder of the year. She will support our students as a Special Education Resource Teacher.
PTO Movie Night
We had another great turn out (over 150 in attendance) at our spring PTO Movie Night watching Migration! Thank you for supporting our PTO and spending an evening together as a family.

Gr 3 STEMH The Works Museum Offsite Field Experience
Our 3rd-Grade students explored the many exhibits and got their curiosity going as they ventured to The Works Museum in Bloomington. Students also designed and created their own personal kaleidoscope to take home with them. Did they show you their amazing creation? Click here for pictures.

Please send an extra pair of pants and underwear for your child in case there is an accident (bathroom, breakfast/lunch spill, etc.). The health office loves donations of gently used sweatpants and leggings sizes 5-10. We also appreciate new packs of underwear for boys and girls sizes 5-10.
The health office has free at home Covid tests. Email Darlene.Anderson@ahschools.us and we can send them home with your child.

If your child goes to the doctor or dentist, please request a doctor's note and send it with your child for attendance purposes.
Parent Educator and VSC Updates
Parent Educator, Nichol Michaels - April Parent Press - Risk Taking and Safety Development in Children
- With warmer weather, kids want to spend more time outside. Whether your child is wanting to ride their bike, go on walks or play with friends, it is important to remind them about safety rules. It is also important as a caregiver to scaffold how to take calculated and informed risks. This includes trying the monkey bars on the playground, looking both ways when crossing the street or learning a new skill that scares them. Here are some strategies and ideas to support your child's risk taking and safety development.
Volunteer Service Coordinator, Tina Fletcher - April VSC Newsletter
- So much is happening here at Hoover as we enter into our final couple months of the school year! Hoover is in full swing for events, and we would love to have more families volunteer to help make these events and activities run smoothly!
In order to volunteer, all volunteers need to fill out a volunteer application form and a background check. Once you complete these, see the below events to sign up to help our school.
- Did you know you don't have to be an adult to volunteer? Yes, some volunteer opportunities require you to be an adult to volunteer for our school. But we do have several ways to volunteer for those who are 12 to 17 years old. Come volunteer as a family for big events like the Spring Carnival.
- Some other ways for teens to volunteer include:
- Workroom- copying, cutting, sorting, etc.
- PTO Childcare
- Spring Carnival
- Movie Nights
- Bingo Nights
- Reading Night, Math Night, and other school led events
- Current High Priority Volunteer Opportunities
