Community F Open House Update
Information from Around our Classrooms
Welcome parents!
At this point, we are three quarters of the way through your child's 4th grade year. They have been presented with challenges, excitement and even some hilarious moments as a fourth grader thus far and the surprises are sure to continue! In less than 30 days, students will take their first of three state assessments (STAAR) and we (the teachers) need your help to get students ready for these required tests. If you would like to schedule a parent conference for more information on the STAAR or any other in class concerns, issues, or questions, please contact Mrs. S. Glass (community leader) at snglass@aldine.k12.tx.us.
What's happening in our classes?
A few of our Inventors, Scientists and Mathematicians...
Please be sure to stop by Room 34 for the Third Annual Person in A Bag Museum! Come and view the student artifacts from over 20 Scientists, Mathematicians and Inventors from the last century! Bring your digital device to watch the "chosen" person come to life in from of your very eyes!
Our Trip to the African American Library at the Gregory School
Students and teachers visited the African American Library for a performance of "Rosa Parks" and a tour of the Gregory School. This experience allowed students to get a glimpse of life in Houston over the last century as well as reflect on the life of Rosa Parks and her significance to the Civil Rights Movement.

What's Happening in Math?
In Mrs. Sarkar's classroom, your child is learning different ways to collect and analyze data. A survey is a way to collect data. A graph is a way to display data to help analyze and look for patterns in the data. Each kind of graph serves a different purpose. A bar graph is used to compare quantities at a glance. A bar graph includes a title, a vertical and horizontal axis and a scale. For more information on fourth grade concepts, with fun while exploring, visit www.aaamath.com.
In Mrs. Weisinger's classroom...
We just finished making a HUG leap of progress on expository writing. If you have heard that main ideas are like tabletops (they carry the weight of big ideas) and supporting details are like table legs (the more the better) and that examples are like the table feet (make the table less wobbly)...you have heard our METAPHOR for building a high scoring STAAR composition. Next, we continue to master revising ans editing skills (we call these ARMS and CUPS questions). We will also review entertaining beginnings and endings for narrative writing.
In Mrs. Glass' classroom...
Currently students are exploring W.E.D. in Science. Please ask your child what this is... Students have actually explored slow changes to the Earth's surface and will continue to examine patterns that take place here on Earth.
In Texas history this quarter, students have stepped back in time to closely experience Texas as a part of Spain, Mexico and even as their own country! Now we are entering the time period when Texas was annexed. Texas History is very diverse, and if you get a chance, feel free to stop by and explore some of it's stories brought down to a 4th graders' view.
