HAPPY FRIDAY!

We crushed it this week. Fundraisers, 5k, Career Week, Kindness Retreat, Math Masters, All School Meeting, Band Performance and more...

I am proud of our students for Rising Up and embracing the excitement of May. All of these special events are geared toward learning, even our Penny War Fundraiser was a giant math problem.

Next week is another big one.

• First, it is our last Book Fair. BOGO! Buy One Get One Free!
• More importantly, it is Staff Appreciation Week and the thing that makes our school great is the people. Read below for some easy ideas to make your teacher or any staff member at Oak Crest feel your gratitude!

May 5-9 is Staff and Teacher Appreciation Week.

We have the best staff of educators around and I am hopeful they feel the love this week. At Oak Crest, we are doing a few special things to celebrate, but feeling gratitude from students and families is what means the most. Our people work at Oak Crest because they love your kids and want to be a part of their lives! Below are a few easy ways to show staff you care!

Show Staff your Appreciation: Easy Ideas

• Hand written note
• Individual email
• Send a small gift card
• Make a short video with your child and say thanks in a personal way.
• Buy a Book for them at the book fair (add an inscription in the cover!)
• Teachers love to get a quick coffee or order in lunch. A gift card to a local coffee shop or restaurant is a great idea...or offer to be their door dash and let them order a lunch from you.

**Challenge: consider spreading appreciation to your child's homeroom teacher and another adult or two that impacts their day. We have specialist teachers, support teachers, paras, and office staff that all do outstanding work!!

Our first annual Career Day was a huge success. Thanks to parents who presented, staff who made time and space for this important learning, and to students who embraced their hopes and dreams and the possibilities the future holds!

A huge thank you to Carla Riemer for her great effort to continue our Amundson Annual 5k Run. Our kids did great rising up to a very difficult challenge! Check out a few pictures in the video above.

We also had our Penny War Fundraiser tied to our 5k event. As a school we raised over $900 to be shared between PeaceMaker MN, Mental Health Support at OC, and school events. The 3 staff members who lost in this battle were Mr. Hartmann, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Werner. Mr. Werner's accountability will be fulfilled later in the year.

Buying school supplies in August can be a a fun process, or an overwhelming one. At Oak Crest we offer an alternative to purchasing your supplies on your own for those interested. If you are wondering, prices are very similar to shopping in the store and supplies ordered are delivered to your child's classmate for back to school conferences.

• Parent Pick Up the last few minutes before the end of the day is really challenging. It is our policy to have kids picked up before 2:45pm or to just do regular dismissal. Any changes in pick up plans also should be done by 2:30 and include communication directly to the office.
• iPads will be turned in and kept at school this summer. They will also be cleared of non-essential data. If your child has pictures or videos saved to their iPad they will be erased. Students can upload these items to Google Drive if they want to save essential items.
• Families should keep charging cords and bricks for continued use next year.

Invites for Summer School have all been sent. If you are planning to accept an invitation, you have until Monday morning when we close registration. Students registered can expect an email from their summer school teacher in the next 2 weeks!
