This Week at the Peak!
Second grade found their place in space while practice place value! Our students are out of this world! #launchMPE
First graders had a lot of fun in the science lab this week, learning all about magnets! They hypothesized if certain items were magnetic or not magnetic and then got to test their hypothesis with magnet wants and smaller magnets. These young scholars were excited to discover the difference in force of the magnetic wand verses the smaller magnets. #launchMPE
Mr. Lewiston’s class created density towers today and found the relative density of different substances. #launchMPE
First graders read fairy tales this week and they got to highlight their creativity after reading about Jack and the Beanstalk story, by planting their own beanstalk in the outdoor classroom. Their plants are stored in the classroom so they can watch the beans take root and grow!
This week 2nd grade has been talking about Empathy. We’ve discussed how empathy is putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and understanding their feelings. Today students showcased what they have been learning. Check out these sweet kicks! #launchmpe #capturingkidshearts
Our student led media team did a great job of getting our live announcements up and running Monday! Way to go!
Ms. Stelter utilizes the outdoor classroom and sensory wall learning experience. Students got to interact with the sensory wall and plant seeds to smell.
Ms. Stelter's kids participating on a writing lesson using sticks put to a song. They are learning how to start letters at the top.
Walked in to find 5th graders doing CKH rating and affirming to reflect on their cafeteria choices. Thank you Mr. Lewiston for leading them through this process of analyzing their choices and affirming each other.
Our students are loving the new magnet board in our library’s makerspace! Thank you to our amazing PTO for providing this for our library and for Mr. Hobbs who installed it over the weekend!
Science in action!! Students were presented with the question “who can jump farther, boys or girls?” Then they had to make a claim, test it, collect data and confirm or adjust their original claim with reasoning. Our next step is to think about factors that affected the jump distance and compare with other 5th grade science classes.
First grade explored science tools and safety in the science lab this week! They are ready for endless possibilities and exploration this year!
Letter from the Specials Teachers
Dear Mt. Peak Parents/Guardians,
We are looking forward to another wonderful year in specials (Art, Music, and P.E.)!
We seek to empower students by investing in their future, inspiring their learning, and igniting their passions. To help ensure that, we have planned a variety of activities and programs to help strengthen your child’s confidence in his/her abilities. The following rules for PreK through fifth grade specials were designed to keep your child safe and to maximize instructional time.
1. Have BIGTIME manners! . . . Be responsible, respectful, safe, & kind.
2. Try your guts out! . . . Always do your best and never give up!
If a student chooses not to follow the rules, the following consequences will be given on a day-to-day basis and tracked each nine-week grading period (per report card period).
1. First Offense - The 4 questions:
What are you doing?
What are you supposed to be doing?
Are you doing it?
What are you going to do about it?
** After warning – What’s going to happen if you break our social contract again?
2. Second Offense - time-out; student will sign the behavior book; email to parent.
3. Third/Fourth Offense - time-out; student will sign the behavior book; call to parent.
4. Fourth offense - time-out; student will sign the behavior book; character lab; call to parent.
5. Fifth offense - time-out for the rest of class; character lab; call to parent; Referral.
** If a student signs the book twice in a nine-week period, it will lower his/her conduct grade one-letter grade (from Satisfactory to Needs Improvement). Signing four times can drop it to Unsatisfactory.
** A major offense will warrant an automatic trip to the office with a referral, and possible Unsatisfactory conduct grade for that nine weeks grading period.
In Physical Education classes. . . because safety is our first and most important priority, students must wear appropriate shoes. Tennis/athletic shoes must be worn for elementary physical education classes. The shoe must be secured to the foot. Socks must be worn with tennis/athletic shoes. Students may not wear boots of any kind, sandals, flip flops, shoes with a raised heel, crocs, dress shoes, cleats, etc. Clothing should not impair participation. Shorts, tights or leggings must be worn with skirts and dresses. Students will receive four warnings within a grading period. If improper footwear or clothing continues to be worn the Participation grade will be lowered to "N" Needs Improvement. Six warnings for improper footwear or clothing will result in a "U" Unsatisfactory grade for the period.
If your child is unable to participate in physical education class due to an injury or sickness, please send a note. Please include the dates your child needs to be excused and the reason for the excuse.

More information will be sent home about these performances as we get closer to each performance date.

December - 5th Grade
March - 4th Grade
April - 1st Grade

Recorders for 3rd Grade
Many of you have sent Recorder instruments for your 3rd or 4th grade students already. If you have not picked one up yet, Stage Volume in Midlothian has been keeping them in stock. Please stop by and pick one up. Put your student’s name and home room teacher on the case and send it to school as soon as you can. Recorders will be stored here on campus in the music room and sent home at the end of the year. Let Ms. Hazelton know if you have any questions regarding recorders!
Please feel free to contact us regarding any questions you may have. We will be more than glad to discuss and resolve any issue anyone might have. We’re looking forward to working with your child. It’s going to be a great year!

DOGS - Dads of Great Students
We are excited to share an opportunity to get involved with the school through our Father Figure volunteer group, DOGS. This group steps in to help whenever the need arises, whether it's assisting with the drop-off car line on Friday mornings or giving our staff a break during particularly cold or rainy weather. The commitment is flexible—you don't need to be there every Friday, but when you can participate, the kids and staff truly appreciate it.
We'll also have various opportunities throughout the school year to help out with setting up for school events. It's a great way to make a positive impact, and the kids love seeing the dads and father figures involved.
If you'd like to join, please click [this link] to sign up.
Background Checks
While completing a background check isn't mandatory, it's always a good idea to have one on file in case an event comes up that requires volunteer help inside the school. You can complete the Volunteer Background Check here.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email Mr. Henke at adam.henke@midlothianisd.org.
We would love to see a strong group of men involved at Mt. Peak, so please consider signing up!

HB 3 required parent notice on practicing safe firearm storage
All Texas school districts are required by law to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. House Bill 3, Section 19 added Section 37.222 to the Texas Education Code, which requires the Texas School Safety Center, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety, to provide information and resources to school districts for the purpose of disseminating the information to parents. The Texas DPS launched a Keep ‘Em Safe Texas website that provides safety resources, materials, and tips for practicing safe gun storage to prevent accidents and keep children safe. Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com.
Help Guides to Assist Parents/Students with District Resources
Below are resources that have been previously shared with parents/students with accessing and logging in to district resources. As we approach mid year we wanted to share them again.
UPDATE this
Bus Rider Contracts required annually
Does your student need MISD school bus transportation? All students must have a current Bus Rider Contract on file for each year. All contracts received by the July 12 deadline will secure route information and transportation for the first week of school. Contracts received after July 12 are being processed on a first come, first served basis and transportation is not guaranteed for the first week of school.
If you have not submitted a contract for your student, please fill one out and return to the Transportation Department by emailing to bus_contracts@midlothianisd.org or by delivering to 601 E. Avenue E, Midlothian. Please remember that your student cannot ride the bus until their contract is processed.
Free and Reduced Lunch Information!
Dear MISD Families,
You may have received this information directly from your campus, but we want to ensure all MISD families know about an update and opportunity from our Child Nutrition Department. Please disregard this message if you have already applied for free/reduced-price school meals for the 2023-24 school year.
Students who participated in the free/reduced-price meals program during the previous school year in Midlothian ISD could continue receiving free/reduced-price meals for the first 30 days of school. This 30-day grace period has now ended, and a new application must be submitted. Students will no longer receive free/reduced-price meals without application approval for the 2023-24 school year.
Please click here to visit the MISD Child Nutrition Department website for more information on school meals and to apply for the free/reduced-price meals program.
If you have any questions or need assistance, you can reach our Child Nutrition Department by emailing mandie.tucker@midlothianisd.org or calling (469) 856-5390.
