Kia ora,
As we delve into the cooler month of May, it’s crucial to reiterate the values that bind us together as a community. Our code of conduct serves as the cornerstone of our interactions, fostering an environment of respect, inclusivity, and positivity. Remember, each interaction is an opportunity to uplift and support one another, especially as we collectively work towards the betterment of our children through our curriculum, Arts and Sports. A special thank you to all of our staff who work in these areas above and beyond their classroom programs.
I would like to extend the warmest congratulations to our student leaders who lead our recent mihi whakatau. Their dedication and commitment to embodying our community values shine brightly, setting exemplary standards for us all. We couldn’t be prouder of their leadership.
On another note, please join us in welcoming a new member to our staffing whānau. Connor Johnson joins us as a new Teacher Aide, bringing with him a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to support our students' journey.
Let’s also not forget the heart and soul of our community—our hardworking students. With unwavering dedication, many of them are diligently practicing for Pai Tamariki, focussing and learning more at every rehearsal. Their commitment and passion serve as a testament to their resilience and determination.
In closing, let’s continue to uphold our community code of conduct, embracing each interaction as an opportunity to foster positivity, kindness, and support. Together, we can continue to create a nurturing environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
Thank you for your continued dedication to our community and its values.
Manaakitanga

Showing our West End Values
In 2020, we created our School Values through discussions with staff, students and our West End community. We plan all of our teaching through Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga, Mana Aotūroa and Whakamana. These are also our expectations of how we treat each other every day. West End School is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, whānau and visitors.
Our Code of Conduct serves as a reminder to all parents, caregivers, and school visitors that their conduct must support everyone’s emotional and physical wellbeing, and not harm it in any way.
The Code of Conduct applies:
- to all conduct, speech, and action, and includes emails, texts, phone calls, social media, or other communication
- while on school grounds or at another venue where students and/or staff are assembled for school purposes (such as a camp or sports match).
West End School expects parents, caregivers, and visitors to:
- treat everyone with respect
- work together in partnership with staff for the benefit of students
- respect and adhere to our school values
- set a good example for students at all times
- follow school procedures to handle any complaints
Breakfast Club starts at 8.15am
Please do not send your child to school too early!
A reminder that Breakfast Club starts at 8.15am. We are having a lot of children arriving at school without an adult before 8am. Children should not be on the grounds before 8.15am. When children arrive to school before 8.30, they will need to wait in the area next to the turf (and on the seats in the quad if it is raining). For your child's safety, please do not send them to school too early. Thank you for your co-operation.
School Lunches
A reminder about school lunches - no confectionary/sweets or sugary drinks are allowed at school. This includes lunches coming from home and from the dairy and bakery.
Paying via Kindo
Important Information - please read
When ordering through Kindo - Bank transfer is NOT recommended for same day/next day lunch orders, or items that are closing within 48 hours as orders will not be processed until funds have cleared and may get missed. To view the details for setting up your payments, select the 'Click here' or 'Get details' option. This will give you the bank account details to make the payments into, along with your member number to be included as the reference.
Bringing in Spare Clothes
Please can parents of younger children please send in spare changes of clothing; undies, pants, tops etc. These can just stay in their bags in case they have an accident. We are having quite a few toileting issues and our supplies (undies and pants) are not being returned when we lend them out. Also, if your child likes to play on the field, a change of clothes would be recommended in case they get muddy.
Safety on the Swings
After school - parents can you please remind your children about the rules of the swing. Posters have been put up to remind everyone. We want everyone to enjoy the swings safely, but if there is still dangerous behaviour we will have to close the swings after school.
Bringing Scooters to School
Please ensure if your child brings a scooter or bike to school that it is well named. If you notice your child may have brought home the wrong bike or scooter, please return this to school as soon as possible. All scooters and bikes are brought to school at the children's own risk. Please also remember safety equipment (eg helmets) if your child is riding a bike to school.
