Meet Our Staff - Ms. Jessie (Educational Assistant)
Aloha Makalapa Families,
I’m Ms. Jessie. You may have seen me zipping around campus or helping out at afternoon car pick-up, my bright red hair makes me easy to spot! I joined Makalapa two years ago as an Adult Supervisor and now have the privilege of serving as the Educational Assistant for Kindergarten. In this role, I support the classroom environment and spend my mornings with our wonderful Kindergarten students before school and during lunch. I truly enjoy building connections with each student and watching their unique personalities blossom as they grow and learn in our school community. Please say hello if you see me around, I love getting to know our families too!
Warm regards,
Ms. Jessie
McTeacher's Night
Take the night off of cookin' Mom, we'll McLove it!
Come on down to the Mcdonald's at Moanalua Shopping Center (the one with the indoor playground) to grab some McGrindz! They will give the school a percentage of the profits from the orders between 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thurs, 2/27. We hope to see you there!
Reading is Power
"Books are a uniquely portable magic." -Stephen King
March is National Reading Awareness Month, did you know that existed?! In honor of NRAM let's explore a cool online library resource: Libby. You can put apps like Libby onto phones and tablets to borrow ebooks from the comfort of your couch. They have books for all genres, audio books too.
You'll need a state (almost all states participate) library card to create an account with Libby.
If you don't have a library card, you and/or your child can get one from any public library in Hawaii for free! If you have questions about getting a library card, click here. You can apply for a card online here, to gain immediate access to online library services.
Salt-Lake Moanalua Public Library
This is one of the closest public libraries to our school. It's located next to Aliamanu Middle School and Salt Lake Shopping Center (Soon's, Safeway, Long's). They have a wide selection of great books and lots of free activities too, like; Preschool Storytime, LEGO club, music performances, and movies.

100 Days of Kindergarten
Our hardworking Kindergarteners made projects to celebrate their first 100 days in elementary school. The projects I saw them bringing to school were super cool, I just had to get some shots for everyone to see. Check them out below, cheers to their First 100 Days of Kindergarten!
Buddy Activity Grades 1 & 4
"Let it go." -Queen Elsa
The 1st and 4th graders got together in the cafe to discuss mistakes, apologies, and regrets. Mr. Kawatachi and Mrs. Sakamoto led the buddies in a lively discussion about these topics, then they wrote down a troublesome memory onto dissolvable paper and 'let it go' into big buckets of water.
Who's in the Healthroom?
Aloha,
My name is Ms. Leslie and I am the SHA (School Health Aide) in the Health Room. I am responsible for your student's health while on campus and taking care of all of their needs. As we are all aware of the pesky germs that are shared throughout the school day, it is a great reminder to teach your student about proper hand washing skills, which are a huge part of staying healthy and keeping others healthy as well.
I am here to answer any questions or concerns that you may have regarding your student's health while here at school. Here is a link for you to explore and to learn about some more important Health information. https://health.hawaii.gov/
Mahalo,
Ms. Leslie
