Letter from the Principal
Dear Loyola Families,
I hope everyone had a good break last week. I want to send a huge Thank You to Mr. Julian and all the staff for their support while I am away for a family emergency. I know Loyola is in good hands with Mr. Julian there this week. I hope to be back Monday at the latest.
STEM Expo is tomorrow night from 5:30-6:30. I hope many of you can come and support our budding STEM scientists. Thank you to Mira Sharman and Grace Choi for all of their hard work to put this event on.
I want to send out a round of applause to Myna, Rishaan and Sara who participated in the LASD Spelling Bee this week. A huge congratulations to Myna Nama for placing in the top 3 and moving on to the Santa Clara County Spelling Bee! GOOD LUCK MYNA!
Be Kind, Be Strong, Be Well and Make Kindness Normal,
Kelly Rafferty
PTA News
We hope you all had a restful break with your families!
First, our SILENT AUCTION has been extended and will now close on Friday, February 28th at 10pm. Parties are going fast and so if you have not yet signed up for coveted teacher-hosted parties and family-hosted parties, now is the time! There are also a lot of great items - summer camps, restaurant gift certificates, local museums, boat tours…the list goes on and on. Many of these items will be sold below market value…so, you could get a great deal! Silent Auction also includes some Loyola favorites, such as front row seats for 6th grade graduation, front row tickets to the Loyola spring musical, a reserved parking spot in the Loyola parking lot and much more! And, even better, all proceeds go directly to the Loyola PTA! It’s a win-win!
Second, don’t forget to reserve your tickets for Loyola’s Ice Skating Night at the Winter Lodge! We have limited tickets left - so, don’t delay! We will have exclusive use of the entire lodge on Friday, March 7th, 5:30-7:30pm. Pre-registration for the event is $35 per person, and includes skate rental fees, dinner and snacks. Everyone will need a ticket for entry to the event, including adults not skating. Pre-registration prices will run through February 28th so reserve your family’s spot at this beloved tradition through this link! We have limited tickets and they sell fast - so, don't delay! Admission is free to younger siblings not old enough to attend Loyola yet, plus Loyola staff. Beginning March 1, including at the door, tickets will be $40/person, subject to availability. Also, as with many of our PTA events, we need YOUR help with logistics that night (food pick-up, set-up, serving, etc.) - if you can help, please sign up HERE.
Third, want to join the Loyola PTA board next school year?! It is a great way to get involved and be part of a fun, collaborative group! Check out the job descriptions HERE. If you think you might be interested in becoming part of our awesome executive board, please reach out to Vijay Devarapalli (dvijay@rocketmail.com).
Lastly, have you ever wondered how families have personalized bricks in the front of Loyola near our lion statue?! Well, for only $150, you can have a brick inscribed and installed at Loyola! You can use the bricks to recognize your family, honor a favorite staff member, or share an inspirational message. All proceeds help fund the many PTA programs on campus. Bricks can accommodate three lines of up to 20 characters each, and will be installed towards the end of the school year. Use this link to make your lasting impression! Last day to purchase bricks is March 21.

“Largest Increase in LAEF Donors from Loyola Families! We are making good progress towards our $2.9M goal for LAEF this year, and I wanted to send a huge thank you to the Loyola school community to recognize that our school has the largest increase in participation (10%) this year among all 9 LASD schools. We are a little short of our goal, and while many of our families have made their contributions to LAEF, we are still asking for donations from those who haven’t given this school year to help us reach our goal of 100% participation in support of LAEF.”
– Murray Stokely, Loyola LAEF Board Member
The Los Altos Art Docent program, funded by donations to LAEF, is continually designing new lessons to engage every TK-6 grade student. Recently, they introduced two new Transitional Kindergarten lessons: Line Bots and Pattern Portraits. Check out the art lessons available at every grade level.
Let’s finish the job! We still need to raise the final $135K to fund the well-rounded education your student is receiving this school year. If you have yet to give, donate to LAEF today and submit for a corporate match if it’s available to you. Gifts of any amount are appreciated and make a difference. If you have already given this year, thank you!
