UPCOMING EVENTS
Tutoring ans Saturday Academy is here!
It's that time of year! Tutoring and Saturday Academy will begin next week. These programs are by invitation ONLY! Please check your email that you have on file with the school to see if you have received an invitation. Math tutoring will begin on Monday, October 21, 2024. Reading Tutoring will begin on October 24, 2024 from 3:00pm-4:00pm. Saturday Academy will begin on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 9:00am-11:00am.

Join us for the CMIT North Elementary School Fall Festival/Health Awareness & Fitness Day on Saturday, November 9, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm! This exciting event will feature a variety of health-related activities, vendor booths, fitness demonstrations, and family-friendly fun.
Whether you're interested in promoting wellness as a vendor, volunteering to help, offering your health expertise, or simply attending as a guest, there’s something for everyone! We invite the entire community to come together and celebrate health, wellness, and fitness.

We are offering 10 interactive activities for 4-5 year olds, focusing on key readiness domains: Physical Well-Being & Motor Development, Language & Literacy, Math, and Social Foundations. Each child will receive a Kindergarten Readiness Kit after completing the activities. You must register to secure a spot.

Greetings Parents/Guardians! The club lottery has closed and those selected received notification. Clubs started on October 14, 2024. Clubs will be held IN PERSON after the 2:25 p.m.-2:55 p.m. school dismissal. Club decisions are final. If your child was not selected in the initial lottery they have been waitlisted.

Nurse Updates
A Message from Nurse Ann
It is imperative that we are aware of any health issues. Please update the school nurse for any new or important medical information. Our immunization compliance is almost 100%, continue to forward documentation to the nurse.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

Read-a-Thon is here! We are 17% toward our goal with $10,209 raised as of 10/17! We are awarding 10 Dojo points to every scholar registered by 11:59pm next Friday, October 25!
With the Read-a-thon, we aim to raise $60,000 toward the academic enrichment initiatives and supplies that continue to set CMIT North Elementary Tigers apart from the pack. The Read-a-Thon is easy and requires minimal time commitment for maximum impact.

Kind Kindergarten News!
Hello Families:
Our scholars have mastered the routines of finding their classroom, putting their items away, and preparing for their day. It is important for your scholar to be in class by 8:00 a.m. every day.

ELA: We are working on the letter “Aa”, identifying common sounds that letters represent. We will also be reviewing our sight words: she, see, and look. We will introduce generating questions for formal and informal inquiry.

Social Studies:We will learn our national and state symbols. Introduce the Big Question
What does it mean to be American?
Math:We are working on groups with the number 10 using math manipulatives.
Science: We are continuing learning about the 3 states of matter: solid, liquid, and a gas.
Your scholar should have chosen a book to use for our book character report; it is due on October 31st and it will be an assessment grade for Reading. All scholars are required to complete the book report.
Friendly reminder: If your scholar has a fever or is not feeling well, please keep them home until their symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours. We are trying to alleviate the spread of germs within our classrooms.

Fascinating First Grade News!
We are starting a lot of fun activities this month. First a friendly reminder that picture day is October 22. For this day students are to wear their regular uniforms. Our annual read a thon begins the week of the 28th. Each day students are encouraged to participate in different themes.
Monday: wearing a crazy hat, Tuesday: wear superhero or princess shirt, Wednesday: dress in wacky tacky attire, Thursday: Book Character Day Parade (dress up as your favorite book character), Friday: Pajama Day.
OLSAT testing will take place this week. Please ensure that all students are well rested for the week.
As the weather gets cooler, please ensure your scholar comes to school in a heavier coat, to take for recess. Students may wear any outside coat for recess.

In phonics, scholars we will review r-Controlled vowels ar, or, ore, and oar.
In Math, we will begin Topic 4. This topic focuses on fluently adding within 100.
In Science, we will continue Topic 2: Changing Matter. In Social Studies, we will begin Lesson 1, Our American Culture.
As we continue to settle into the school year, we kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness. Lastly, please label your scholar's school uniform jackets.

PUMPKIN DAY ACTIVITIES October 31: Permission slip will be sent home. The signup genius to purchase items needed for a day of learning and fun will be available next week.
BOOK CHARACTER DAY October 31st: Scholars may come dressed as their favorite book character. Don't forget to send a copy of the book.
Our next field trip will take place on November 21st. Field trip forms will be sent out soon.

Terrific Third Grade News!
HAPPY STEM WEEK!
In Reading, students will learn the components of a proper research paper. We will begin Unit 2: Interactions. Students will begin reading the informational text Patterns in Nature. The skill for this week is VC/V patterns.
In Social Studies, students will continue to learn about Goods and Services.
In Math, we are finishing up Topic 4, Using Multiplication Facts to solve Division. Then we are completing our Topic 1-4 Cumulative test, a review of everything we've learned so far in 3rd grade math!
It's STEM Week! In Science we are kicking off our STEM Fair Projects by completing a whole class example project, going through all the steps from choosing a topic, forming a hypothesis, isolating variables, and conducting our experiments.
The field trip to Adventure Theatre was CANCELED due to unforeseen circumstances.
We have a trip scheduled to the Maryland Science Center for Friday, December 6, 2024! We will need many volunteers for this trip.
Please remember that you MUST be APPROVED by PGCPS in order to chaperone a field trip.

Fabulous Fifth Grade News!
Tigers! Tigers! Great week of progressing and perseverance! We are nearing the end of the month and are soon to embark on the month of November. We have completed Parent University Night for STEAM and gathered pertinent information about the STEAM Project and Fair next year! Students were also informed about the expectations of the STEAM project and how it applies to 5th graders. Students must have a presentation as well as an essay connecting to the project. This week in math we will focus on multiplying decimals by whole numbers and decimals by decimals using models and the algorithm strategy.
Social Studies
Chapter 4 is a journey of understanding, knowledge, and realizing why things happened. The students have many questions and we're finding the answers together. This chapter will continue to send us on a path of necessary information and intrigue. We look forward to learning all we can and gaining the necessary tools to move forward. We'll indulge in some character development as well. Let's go Tigers!!!

Superior Specials News!
Kindergarteners are working on Lines and Shapes. We have reviewed safe scissor use and techniques.
Students will create their own artwork focused on lines and shapes and experiment with collage.
First graders are finishing a project called,
I Love My Hair!
Students will create a portrait with an abstract hair design that depicts a particular mood or feeling, using line, repetition, pattern, and color.
Second graders are creating imaginary creatures in
“Monster Mashup”
Students will present their never-before-seen creature hybrids by combining parts from five animals, to create one in its habitat. We will critique next week.
Third graders are making Patterned Landscapes. Students will create a landscape that contains patterns.
Fourth grade, Names Revealed Through Color:
Students are creating geometric name designs using color, shapes, lines, and text to express an aspect of their personality. They will submit Artist Statements next week along with a critique.
Fifth graders are making “Monster Line Drawings” Students create illustrations from random markings to create a 3D image with form and texture. Artist Statements and reviews are due next week.
Music
Hello! K has began learning about the 4 different ways we use our voice! (sing, whisper, talk, and shout)
1st graders have finished their steady beat section.
2nd graders and 3rd graders are learning how to do the Cup Song, to go with learning how to create different rhythms. 4th and 5th graders are finishing up their centers regarding note values.
Technology
Hello! K-1 students developed mouse skills such as pointing, clicking, double-clicking, and dragging while practicing counting, as well as matching shapes and colors.
2-5 students have been practicing Home Row keys as well as letters v, m, b, n, c and the comma.
PE
Good week! This week we will be continuing to work on our procedures of class in order to prepare us for next week's activity. Please remember to make sure your scholar is in sneakers! Have a great week!

Greetings,
Kinder & 1st: Are learning about how bats sleep. We had a read aloud of the book Amara and the Bats. They are using the engineering design process to prepare the bats to sleep by creating a way for them to hang upside down on a dowel.
2nd we are continuing in the create stage of the engineering design process on our structures to protect food. These scholars are so creative!!
3rd we are continuing with the create stage of the engineering design process as the continue creating their games. These scholars are so creative!
4th We are in the create stage of the engineering design process. We have sketched our backpacks and created and cut out our patterns. These scholars are so excited to begin sowing. We will cut out and begin sowing our backpacks next week.
5th We are finishing up the create stage and will begin the test stage of the engineering design process. These scholars are so creative with their ideas for these shelters! Next week scholars will create a commercial to share about their shelters and then we will test them against wind and rain!

Hey there, CMITNES Families! Our K-2 students just wrapped up some awesome lessons on emotions and feelings with the school counselor, and now it's time for 3rd through 5th grade to dive in! We're all about recognizing and expressing our BIG emotions in a healthy way. From practicing deep breathing to learning how to talk about what we feel, these sessions will help students navigate anything that comes their way. Get ready to explore how we can calm our minds, take deep breaths, and understand the power of expressing our emotions!
