Magyar's Message May 24, 2024
-From The Desk of the Superintendent-
Dear ALCS Families,
It’s the ‘unofficial’ start to summer. We made it to Memorial Day weekend. Let’s first take a moment to pause and reflect on the true meaning of this weekend by remembering all of the servicemen and women who lost their lives while defending our great country. Thank you to all of those still serving or have served.
Congratulations to the entire cast, crew and directors of "The Little Mermaid" at Avon Lake High School. The show earned 13 Dazzle Award nominations and received the honor of “Best Costume Design” during last weekend’s awards ceremony. It was wonderful to see our students and staff walk the Red Carpet prior to the ceremony. It truly felt like being on Broadway. You are all winners.
Tuesday (May 28) begins our annual Bike to School Week for our elementary and Troy students. Please use extreme caution next week if you are driving in the area of the schools in the morning for arrival, and at the end of the day during dismissal. Plan accordingly as there may be delays due to the amount of families crossing the streets.
Below are a few things to be mindful of if your child/family is riding:
School Rules
1. We ask that everyone wear a helmet.
2. We will park bikes in the front of the school. There will be cones separating grade levels.
3. We ask that you use all official crosswalks at the school entrances.
4. Bikes must be walked when entering school property.
5. Bikes should not be walked between parked cars, moving cars, or in front or behind buses.
Outside the school
1. Please wear a helmet.
2. Talk about bike safety with your child.
3. Choose the safest path to get to school.
4. Stop at every intersection, even when you are on the sidewalk. Look in every direction at any intersection for traffic.
5. Ride in a smooth, straight, predictable manner.
6. Be able to stop quickly.
7. Wear bright colors.
8. Ride with friends. This is the best rule for an enjoyable ride.
We love to share the great things students are doing, but we also have amazing staff achievements to celebrate. Congratulations to Avon Lake High School teacher Krystine Frisch for receiving the Innovation Award from the National Council of Teachers of English and the National English Honor Society.
Whatever your plans are for this holiday weekend, please be safe and have fun.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
Sincerely,
Joelle Magyar
