Attendance Matters: Every Day Counts
In Blue Valley, we are beginning to see attendance rates lower than in previous years, and we know this happens for a variety of reasons. However, we believe that regular attendance is key to student success at every grade level. When students miss school, they miss valuable lessons, experiences and opportunities to connect with their peers.
Timely Attendance is Essential
From our youngest learners to high school and beyond, showing up on time ensures students stay on track with the pace of learning. Even a short absence can make it harder to catch up, especially in high school where lessons move quickly. Being present from the start helps students engage fully in class.
Learning is More Than Just Assignments
While makeup work is helpful, nothing replaces the in-class experience. Discussions, group projects and hands-on activities are essential parts of learning that can’t be recreated. Students learn best when they’re actively participating in class.
Plan Ahead for Appointments
Whenever possible, schedule appointments outside of school hours. Missing class disrupts learning and frequent absences can add up. If an appointment during school is necessary, let teachers know in advance to help your child stay on track.
Supporting Students with School Avoidance Behaviors
If your child is showing signs of school avoidance — like staying home on test days — address it early. Avoidance can lead to stress and falling behind. Partner with the school to create a plan that supports your child emotionally and academically, ensuring they feel confident and ready to attend school.
Every day in school matters. Regular attendance builds strong habits, supports learning and fosters social connections. Let’s work together to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
