Tiger Tale
August 19, 2024
Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year!
We had a great first few days of school and are excited about an upcoming year of learning, growth, and success with your children.
As we begin this new school year, our commitment to providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for all students remains our top priority. Whether your child is returning or joining us for the first time, we are dedicated to ensuring that every student has the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Please make sure to join us this Thursday for Back to School Night. This is an important evening where teachers provide an overview of the year, as well as answer your questions. Please join us in the Multi- Purpose Room from 6:20-6:40 where we will introduce our teaching staff, hear from our Parent Faculty Organization President and provide an update on all things Dewey. As a reminder, this is an adult event. See below for classroom presentation times. Don't forget, Friday is a minimum day with 1st-6th grade students dismissing at 1:15. Kindergarten students will be on an early schedule.
Again, welcome to the new school year!
Warmest Regards,
Sabrina Parsley, Principal
Meet Team Dewey!
Meet Halo!
Halo, arguably our most popular staff member, is a professionally trained facility-service dog, who works alongside our speech therapist Nadia Pella. She was specially bred and expertly trained by Canine Companions specifically for this type of work, so she is not only friendly and fun, but she is also very sweet and gentle. Halo loves being a Dewey Tiger and shows this through her kisses, hugs, hive fives and nose-to-fist bumps. If you see her out at recess, come up and say “hello!”.
Some Halo Facts:
- Halo wears a vest when she is working that identifies her as a facility-service dog.
- Halo is a 6-year-old Labrador/Golden Retriever cross.
- Halo knows over 40 commands designed to motivate and inspire students.
- Halo loves receiving pets and friendly scratches, giving kisses, and sunbathing.
Remember:
- Please always ask before you pet Halo; she loves to say “Hi”, but it's important to ask first because she’s working, and we don’t want to distract her.
- Please do not give Halo treats. There are some treats and foods that may upset her stomach, but she loves food so much that she will eat them anyways!
We know you'll love Halo as much as we do. If you have any questions about Halo and her role at Dewey, or your child is allergic to dogs please contact the front office and/or Ms. Pella. Thank you!

Dewey Maker Lab
It’s back! This year, half of the school will come weekly for the first half of the year, then the other half of the school will come weekly the 2nd half of the year. Don’t worry if your child doesn’t start next week- everyone will have equal opportunity to DESIGN, BUILD, and CREATE in the Maker Lab.
The Maker Lab runs on your donations. There is a box for all donations in the office hallway. All cardboard tubes, craft supplies, duct tape, etc. are appreciated. Don’t keep google eyes around your house, but you still want to give? There is an Amazon Wish List: Dewey Maker Lab Wish List
Right now, the Maker Lab is needing your Hex Bugs that are no longer being played with. Give the bugs a second life, give them to the Maker Lab.
