JACKSON MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of Jackson Elementary School is to provide a safe and supportive learning environment in order to ensure high levels of learning for ALL students.
JACKSON VISION STATEMENT:
We are mission-driven, highly motivated, and maintain the highest expectations for ourselves, our students, and our colleagues. Our students are precious, and we will treat them kindly and with love every day. All of our students will succeed academically no matter what! Our tenacity and focus on whatās best for our children will guide our actions every day.
Hello Jackson Families!
It's been a couple of weeks since our last eNews, and I have a lot of student and staff acknowledgements to catch you up on! During the last week of March, we celebrated many student achievements from the 3rd Nine-Weeks of school! Please take a moment to view our student awards section below. These students were recognized during our K-2 Awards Assembly on Thursday, March 27, and our 3-5 Awards Assembly on Friday, March 28. Our students have been working hard and we couldn't be prouder! Great job, Jaguars!
Congratulations also to the following students who were recognized as Jaguars of the Month for March by demonstrating the trait of Cooperation.
Kindergarten: Jheiler Angarita, Jordana Araujo Carmona, Mateo Flores, Piper Gallegos, Keily Herrera, Justin Munoz
First Grade: Azam Ali, Mathias Alvarado, Sandimar Armas, Kate Colvin, Leonardo Guerrero, Eithan Machado
Second Grade: Isaias Alvarez, Presley Gomez, Sienna McAndrews, Mariana Medina, Ryan Nino
Third Grade: Teagon Jaco, Julietta Lopez-Cordova, Mathias Noriega, Vera Nudleman, Kota Okamoto, Daniel Serna
Fourth Grade: Alejandro Espinoza, Melanie Hernandez, Benjamin Pacheco, Himani Sah, Romina Toyo
Fifth Grade: Reyber Cardozo, Hudson Manley, Mia Paez, Dhiago Ramirez, Daniel Trejo
Our March Jaguars of the Month received recognition on JagTube on Friday, March 28, and attended a popsicle party that afternoon with Ms. Hardy, Mr. Riggle and myself! Students also received a certificate, wristband, and a Jackson Jaguar pencil. Grade level group photos will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office. The Jaguar of the Month trait for April is Courage - choosing what is helpful, right, and kind ā even when itās hard or scary. We are certain that we will see many students displaying the Courage trait this month. Keep up the good work, Jaguars!
Special thanks to Mrs. Sagers, Title I Support Teacher, for coordinating a Plano West Environmental Service Project that involved several of our First Grade students. The Plano West volunteer students read books about plants/planting to our students and then every student was given the opportunity to plant seeds in their very own planter. The coolest thing was that they were all able to name their plants and take them home at the end of the event! Our students loved working with the Plano West students and I'm sure they will use their "green thumbs" to help their plants grow!
To wrap up the month of March, we also want to congratulate Ahmad Saqafee and Hannah Schoedel, whose artwork was selected for Youth Artist of the Month! Youth Art Month (YAM) is a national celebration of visual arts, which takes place annually in March. Ahmad's and Hannah's artwork was on display from March 3 - April 4 at The Legacy Gallery at the Robinson Fine Arts Center and they were celebrated at a reception on March 26. What an honor for these budding artists!
Thursday night, April 3, several Jackson staff members were honored at Plano ISD's Salute to Service Banquet. At the Salute to Service Banquet, employees are recognized for 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service, District retirements and Superintendent 100 award winners. We are so fortunate to have so many experienced and outstanding members of the Jackson team and it is an honor to recognize their service! Please see Salute to Service section below.
At our K-5th Spirit Assembly on Friday, April 4, we recognized two students from each grade level who exemplified one or more components of our Jackson Student Expectations: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Responsible. It was a great time for Jackson Jaguars to support their friends, build camaraderie and show their school spirit! A BIG Jaguar Shout-out to the students recognized in the Spirit Assembly section below!
We had sooooo many plastic bags to count for the HEB Plastic Bag Contest and the numbers are now in! We collected a total of 11,260 plastic bags and the winning grade level for the extra recess is (drumroll) . . . KINDERGARTEN with $4,705 bags collected! Thanks to everyone who participated and helped make this such a successful event. Special thanks to Ms. Ventura and Ms. Castaneda who coordinated and to everyone who helped count the bags!
This week, our students in 4th and 5th grade will be taking the STAAR Reading Assessment on Tuesday, April 8, and our 3rd grade students will take the STAAR Reading Assessment on Thursday, April 10. Please help your child have a successful testing experience by making sure they are rested, eat a nutritious breakfast at home or school, and arrive in the morning no later than 7:30 so they do not feel rushed. To ensure a quiet testing environment, visitors will not be allowed in the building, including lunch times, on testing days. Our Jackson Jaguars are prepared and we know they will shine on the STAAR! For more information, please see the letter below concerning STAAR Assessments from Mr. Riggle.

Classroom Lessons
Welcome to the Counselorsā Corner! We will use this section of the eNews to inform you all of topics we will be covering in our Counselor lessons and any other important or useful information! Students come with their class to the counselor bi-weekly to receive lessons. We absolutely love this time with them!
For our next lesson, the weeks of 03/31 & 04/14, we will be teaching our Anti-Victimization lessons. This is a lesson where parents/guardians are required to provide an opt-in consent. Students whose parents/guardians opted-out of the lesson, will stay with their teacher while we complete the lesson with the other students. During these lessons, students will learn personal safety skills and advocacy skills for self and others and the ability to assert self, when necessary. Students will learn how to recognize safe and unsafe situations, how to identify and demonstrate ways to keep themselves safe, how to utilize conflict resolution strategies when faced with a problem, and how to appropriately respond to an unsafe or uncomfortable situation utilizing assertiveness when refusing and reporting. Students will also learn safe vs unsafe adults (strangers) and how to recognize unsafe situations with learning how to respond. Our lessons will also focus on safe and unsafe touches. Students will learn the importance of the 3 Rās (recognize, refuse, report) and to never keep a secret from a safe, trusted adult. To help with this, we will discuss how to identify safe adults to report to. As always, these lessons will be differentiated per grade level to ensure lessons are conducted in an age appropriate, kid friendly manner!
Before beginning our lesson, we will establish clear expectations with the students so they understand the seriousness of the topic and to ensure a safe environment is established.
Jaguar of the Month Program
Jaguar of the Month is a student reward program (Grades K-5) that incorporates character traits from the program, CharacterStrong. A new character trait is introduced every month and students will engage in classroom discussions and activities to reinforce the trait. At the end of the month, each teacher will identify a student who consistently demonstrated the targeted trait. These students will be recognized on JagTube, receive a certificate, wristband, and a Jackson Jaguar pencil. Grade level group photos will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office AND Jaguars of the Month will attend a popsicle party with Dr. Roach, our principal, and Mr. Riggle, our assistant principal!
Our Jaguar of the Month Trait for April is Courage! Our definition of Courage is choosing what is helpful, right, and kind ā even when itās hard or scary. Check out the CharacterStrong Family Letter (English) / CharacterStrong Family Letter (Spanish) for more information about PurposeFull People and some fun ways you can join us in teaching and reinforcing Courage! Monthly Family Newsletters will be sent home that outline the CharacterStrong skills students are learning in class and provide fun ideas to grow as a family at home.
We hope you find this Counselorsā Corner helpful! Please never hesitate to reach out for anything! We are always here to support you and your students!
Thank you!

Jackson Traffic Flow Concerns
Dear Parents,
We recently received complaints regarding ongoing, unsafe driving habits of parents, along with parents who ignore safe practices when crossing a street during pick-up and drop-off times. We strive to make this process safe for our students and visitors, but it is not possible without your cooperation.
We understand that life is busy, but we must stress that when dropping off and picking up your children, please exhibit patience while following state traffic laws and campus procedures. We also ask that those parents who walk their children to and from school, please cross the street properly. We are fortunate to have a crossing guard assigned at the corner of Jackson and Forester. She is there to ensure that you and your children can cross the street safely. We ask that you utilize the crosswalk; not only is it safer, but it sets a good example for your child and instills safe practices in them.
Your children are watching your behavior, how you drive, cross a street, what laws you choose to obey, and most importantly, the ones you choose to ignore. Let's work together to set a better example for our children and those around us. As you approach Jackson, let the busy, hectic life go, and slow down. Follow the traffic laws, have patience, and be courteous.
If it takes a little more time to make the pick-up/drop-off safe... isn't it worth it? When you are operating a vehicle around the Jackson campus, ask yourself... "Would you feel comfortable with another driver driving like you are with your child present?" When you see another child on campus, on the sidewalk, or crossing the street, you should consider them your children. Drive as you would like other parents to drive when they come in contact with your child in a similar situation.
Set an example for your children. Set an example for other parents.
We need your help to make Jackson a safer place. We cannot do it without you.
Thank you!
