Pike Central High School
December
Message from Principal Gaffney
Dear Charger Community,
As we approach our winter weather months, we thought we would send a reminder of the
types of days that may occur.
- Synchronous eLearning occurs when direct interaction occurs between the
student and the classroom teacher for at least 50% of the day. Student
attendance or participation must be documented. This is the format that we will
follow when school is canceled due to inclement weather. The IDOE requires
2 1/12 hours of instruction for Elementary students and 3 hours of instruction
for MS/HS students. (schedule is attached down below)
- Asynchronous eLearning occurs when pre-planned assignments are sent home,
or when direct interaction with the classroom teacher is less than 50% of the
day. We are limited by statute to 3 asynchronous eLearning days per year.
- Snow days occur when school is canceled and we are not able to conduct an
eLearning day, or choose not to schedule an eLearning day. Snow days must
be made up. The IDOE requires five (5) days must be missed and made up
before allowing any modification due to weather. We have snow days included
in our 2024-2025 school calendar (attached).
- A Flexibility Waiver was granted to the school corporation to allow for
professional development time for all staff. Students do not attend school on
Flex Days and there are no assignments planned for that day. Currently, we
have 3 Flex Days under this guideline (HEA 1003). We used a Flex Day on
Sept 23. Our remaining Flex Days are planned for Jan 20 and April 21.
If school must be closed due to a weather event or emergency, we will follow
a synchronous eLearning schedule. The schedules for the synchronous
eLearning days at each school are attached. The schedules will also be posted
on the school websites. If we miss school for more than 3 consecutive days, we
will alternate synchronous eLearning days and snow days.
If your child is unable to log on at the assigned time, please email or phone your
child's teacher or contact the building principal as soon as possible. We realize
many families may not have reliable internet service, or the service may not support
multiple users at one time, or younger children may not be able to participate in a
Google Meet without parental assistance, or other factors may limit your child's ability to
connect at the assigned time. Please communicate with your child's teacher as soon as
possible any concerns you might have. We will work with you to find an alternate plan
for these days.
