Assistant Principal Note
Need Support? We Got You!
We are excited to share the many ways our Student Support Team—comprised of counselors and social workers—partners with students to foster their social-emotional well-being. Our team is here to support your child, whether they need someone to talk to, strategies for managing stress, or help building connections within our school community. We actively respond to student requests and use data from our Connection Cards—a quick survey administered at the start and end of the year—to identify areas where students might need additional support.
This year, we’ve launched several student groups based on these insights, including Anxiety/Stress Management, Executive Functioning, and Social Connections. These groups provide a safe space for students to share their experiences, learn new skills, and build lasting friendships. Students who participate report feeling more connected to their peers and empowered to make positive choices in their daily lives. If you have any questions or feel your child could benefit from additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. Together, we can help every student thrive.
Wishing you a restful week off,
Francesca Favero
Assistant Principal

WMS Girls Basketball & Athletics Site Refresh
After Thanksgiving break, our WMS Athletics webpage will be transitioning to using Snap (formerly 8-18). This change will allow us to incorporate some new features, including online registration for our various teams. Snap has been in use by both St. Charles East & St. Charles North for years. Thompson also began using Snap this school year. We are excited to be able to utilize this platform
Girls Basketball Registration will open on Monday, December 9 via our new Wredling Athletics page. It will remain open until Monday, January 6 2025. Students must be registered by January 6th with a current physical on file in order to try out for the team. The athletic fee for basketball is $135.00. Please do not pay the fee until your child has made the team.
WMS Service Learning Coat Drive
Service learning classes at Wredling are working with Random Acts Matter in collecting new or gently used coats for our coat drive. All sizes are needed. Help share some kindness and keep someone warm this winter!

Clubs & Activities
Builders Club
Our WMS Builders Club students have done amazing work over the past two weeks. They put up the sign “Help Spread Hope” so everyone could be more hopeful. This is a preview of activities that are to come in the near future when all schools celebrate Hope week.
We could use some parent volunteers & donations for the 8th Grade Social. Here's the link to the Volunteer & Snacks Sign-Up. Thank you for helping us make this a successful event for our 8th Grade RedHawks!

AAUW Creative Writing Contest
Calling all 7th and 8th grade writers! Do you enjoy poetry? Have a knack for storytelling, or a love of nonfiction?
We know we have some AMAZING and CREATIVE writers at Wredling, and here is the perfect opportunity to show off your talent and celebrate your writing skills! The Saint Charles/ Batavia/ Geneva chapter of The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will be hosting a creative writing contest for all local 7th and 8th grade students!
There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner in each category of fiction, non-fiction and poetry for both 7th and 8th grades. Additionally, three honorable mentions will also be awarded in each category for each grade.
Writers may submit one entry in any of the following three categories:
Fiction
Non-Fiction
Poetry
You can submit your ELA summatives, other assignments from classes, or another original piece of writing. Winners are honored with a medal, certificate, and special recognition ceremony. Winners may also have their writing published in part or in whole! This is such an awesome opportunity for students interested in writing!
All entries are due to the main office on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 by 2:50 p.m. No late entries will be accepted. Winners will be notified on March 13, 2025 and will be invited to attend a special ceremony in their honor on Thursday, April 10th, 2025. Check out this slideshow for more specifics, and contact your ELA teacher if you are interested in applying.

St. Charles Youth Commission Grants
The City of St. Charles Youth Commission is reaching out to let students and student groups know that we offer financial grants to support kids working to improve the lives of kids in St. Charles! If you are working with young people on a project or you know of some young people working on something positive we'd like to hear about it. If funding is needed, maybe we can help!
The process to request a funding grant is pretty simple:
- We're interested in youth-designed, youth-driven plans, activities or projects that promote healthy lifestyles for the young people of our community. Creative interpretation of this goal is OK!
- Complete the application linked here. All instructions are included. It’s best if it’s in the student’s own words, but don't stress too much. It's really not about the perfection of the application, but it is definitely about the authenticity of the request. We feel the ideas of our young people have the best chance of resonating with other young people. It's also great if your group would like to come to the meeting when your request will be reviewed. The students can answer questions we may have.
- Applications received by the 15th of any month will be reviewed and considered for approval at our monthly meeting at the start of the next month. (FYI - No meetings in July or August).
Another thing...STC Youth Impact Award...Do you know of any D303 students making an especially significant positive contribution to the greater STC community this year? In the spring, we'll be recommending a person or persons for this special commendation at a City Council meeting. We're hoping some school personnel like you can help us identify potential candidates since you work with so many students every day. Let us know!
Please email any questions, applications, or recommendations to us at YC@stcharlesil.gov . A member of the Youth Commission will reach out to you once they receive it.
