"Poho Kererū ana ahau i a koutou kātoa."
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge all six roopu that represented Te Kura O Te Pāroa at this year's Rangitaiki Kapa Haka Performance. Mai nga teina ki ngā tuakana, mai nga tuakana ki ngā teina. We are so proud of each and every one of you.
We are excited that we have been named as one of the four roopu who will represent our rohe at next year's National Kapa Haka competition held in Tauranga. And we are excited to have received awards and trophies from the competition.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the kaiako, tutors, kaiawhina, and whānau who contributed to supporting the 220 students from our kura to take the stage this year. Your expertise, knowledge, and time are invaluable in helping us to share our ancestral knowledge, stories skills and talents to the community.

Linewize Program
We now have a new program in the school that monitors students' online behaviour and activity. Please remind your tamaiti that learning experiences set up by the kaiako are there for the purpose of learning. If misuse of the school’s devices or internet activity is reported their devices will be taken from them.
Students are not allowed to bring phones to school. If a phone is required for the student to communicate with their whānau the phone is to be left at the school office.
Phones are not allowed to be used during play breaks, in the classroom, at Kapa Haka practice, or sporting excursions.
If kaiako and staff, see a phone they will be confiscated.
Therefore, whānau I need your help:
-Please check that your child hasn’t brought their phone to kura.
-Please check their social media platforms.
-Please monitor the sites they are going on at home.
Family link is a free app that has been used by a member of staff at our kura. She highly recommends the use of this app for her tamariki.
Even though most incidents of misconduct online occur outside of school hours and off school premises, the repercussions are still felt within the school community.
By keeping an eye on how your child behaves online, you can help prevent these negative behaviours from occurring.
Attendance
● For continued absences or truancy, tamariki and whanau will be referred to Attendance services, who will help identify and support barriers to coming to kura.
● For tamariki with chronic absences, please note that the kura can engage with external agencies to help support being at kura more regularly.
● Please talk to your classroom teacher or LSC if you need support getting tamariki to school.
Science Engineering Camp
Next week we have a group of 17 tamariki, 6 adults and whaea Sarah who are off to the first Science Engineering Camp in Raglan.
Camp Awesome is run by Pam Ferguson Trust in Karioi, Raglan. Tamariki will spend 3 days learning to improve their team work and problem solving skills, which helps immensely when doing science projects or competitions. Developing a love for science and kaitiakitanga will be a legacy for the future! Thank you to all the sponsors Spark Foundation and Toi Kai Rawa, who have made this trip possible.
Aquabots
It's the Aquabot time of the year again! Due to popular demand, we will have 6 teams competing in the Regionals on Saturday 14th September at the Whakatane Aquatic Centre.
Thank you to our new tamariki and whanau who made the build day on a chilly Saturday morning. We also thank Ministry of Inspiration for the build day at kura for our experienced teams. We can't wait to show up and demonstrate our skills using the underwater robots we have built! Thank you to Whaea Jessica Whaea Hosia and Whaea Monique for their support!
Big mihi to Growing for Good (Woolworths) for their sponsorship to allow us to grow our teams and grow our skills in water monitoring and kaitiakitanga!

Dunk it for Plunket fundraiser
This year Whānau Āwhina Plunket are holding a nationwide “Dunk it for Plunket” fundraiser. If you are not aware, the Government funding that Plunket receives does not cover everything. Some things we have to fundraise for are the finances to host our community playgroups, our Community Services Co-ordinator role, the nurses’ vehicles and much more.
Dunk it for Plunket is simple yet effective in helping us to be able to support the community. All that is required is for you to register a group, workplace or sports team. The first 1000 people to register receives a cool goody box from Arnotts with some treats to kick start your morning tea. Invite friends, whānau and/or colleagues along, ask them to bring a koha/gold coin and you enjoy a lovely morning tea together. The pūtea that you collect would then be donated to Plunket it’s that simple! Not to mention, there are some really cool prizes to be won as well.
If this is something you would be keen on, please click on the link below (or forward the email to anyone else you think might be interested)
