The recent cancelation of school due to weather have shifted our calendar a bit. Please note that the dates below are now school days and no longer teacher workdays.

• Monday - April 7, 2025 - Make Up day for Feb 21
• Friday - May 2, 2025 - Make Up day Feb 20

End of Grade (EOG) Testing for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade must occur in the last 10 days of school as directed by state law. We are asking for all families to note June 2nd - June 13th on their calendar for EOG testing.

We have not identified exact dates yet for each grade level. However, having students here on the date of testing to reduce the number of make-up tests is essential. Please mark your calendar and plan accordingly.

We invite all of our Buckhorn Creek Families to visit the North Carolina Museum of Art. T Tyler Hensley will be representing Buckhorn Creek ES with his oil pastel entitled "Strawberry Shortcake". Stop in and view all of the amazing work by WCPSS students.

Key Details:

• Testing for Single Subject Acceleration is available for enrolled and attending WCPSS students. Students are able to accelerate in either ELA or Math. Testing is done at the student's assigned school.

• Test Request Deadlines: March 10 - March 28 (There will be a link next to "Traditional" to use to request testing.) **The Link is not live yet, because the testing window is NOT yet open.

• All test request windows will open at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time on the first day of the test request window and close at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the last day of the request window.

• Testing Windows: April 11- April 25 (The timeframe during which students will actually be administered the test)

Parents should:

• Attend your school’s SSA informational meeting on February 27th. The meeting will be held virtually to accommodate schedules and will be recorded in case you can't attend. Join the meeting at 6:00 through the following link: SSA Parent Meeting

• Determine which one subject your child will be assessed in (Mathematics or English Language Arts).

• Complete the Central Services SSA Test Request Form

This week, our school community will focus on the Other People Mindset of Identifying and appreciating the good in others. It’s important to deliberately work to identify and appreciate others’ character strengths. It’s not always easy to notice people’s strengths, but it’s something we should all practice.

Often, it’s easier to blame others or focus on their mistakes, which can lead to negative feelings like jealousy or frustration. This negativity can create problems, not just for us but also for our relationships with others.

When we make an effort to see the good in people, we start to see the world in a more positive way. If we always focus on the bad, it feels like we’re surrounded by negativity, which makes us defensive and stressed. This doesn’t mean we should ignore reality or pretend everything is perfect, but we should try to understand others and recognize their good intentions. When we see the good in others, they are more likely to see the good in us.

To practice and encourage the Other People Mindset at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions.
