Newsletter Week 5 Term 1
Reporoa College 5th March 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
We are almost at the halfway point of Term 1, almost a year gone since Covid-19 was starting to get it’s grip on New Zealand and still we are under its influence. Unlike last last year we have already been able to get through some major school events and it was great to see our students enjoying the Athletics and Swimming sports. A big thank you to the parents that were able to come and support our students.
We have noticed and have received positive feedback from visitors that the uniform this year is looking really great, thank you very much as a wider school whanau in your support of this. The Year 13’s even volunteered to wear a dress shirt, tie and blazer this year and are looking awesome.
As Term 2 approaches our students will be signing up for winter sports, we are looking forward to parents and caregivers stepping up to help in coaching and managerial roles within these teams. This spreads the workload for everyone and means that we can get more students out there.
A big thank you goes out to Kyle Brennan and his passion for Orienteering. He has brought our college team to the point of leading the Bay of Plenty School Championships. Thank you so much for taking your time to coach and support the team.
Reporoa College is now the first school in New Zealand to form a relationship with Bakers Delight. They will be providing sliced bread weekly to support the breakfast in schools programme. We as a school will be giving back to Kids Can by raising money from our annual cross country.
There is a trend in the Bay of Plenty / Central Plateau schools of an increase in Vaping and we do not want our students to be a part of this trend here at Reporoa College. New laws came into effect in November 2020 to make vaping prohibited on Government Property in order to align with the current smoke free policy. We will be supporting and enforcing the smoke free policy and will be looking for opportunities to educate our students on the health risks of this habit.
Have a great weekend,
Nga Mihi
