Brown Elementary Update

February 28, 2025
From the Desk of Dr. Cole Harms
Hello Brown Bears!
Can you believe February is OVER?!
We have had some really nice days to play outside since we returned from break. However, the warmer weather coupled with the massive snow piles has created some beautiful mud puddles. Please remember to send boots and extra clothes as we transition from one season to another!
As March approaches, so does the infamous "March Madness: Book Edition" event at Brown School!
A big thank you to Deborah Kreiser-Francis, our school librarian, and our two Literacy Coaches, Allison Barbary and Mary Weidler, for organizing our kickoff assembly on Monday and the book selection.
HERE is a complete listing of the books for this year, along with some brief descriptions. All students will get to experience these books and then vote on class favorites, with an eventual Brown School Favorite Winner (announced in April.) Stay tuned!
For Grade 3 and 4 families, MCAS is on our horizon. Here are the dates for each test implementation:
March 25 - 4th ELA session 1
March 26 - 4th ELA session 2
April 1 - 3rd ELA session 1
April 3 - 3rd ELA session 2
May 6th - 3rd Math session 1
May 7th - 3rd Math session 2
May 13th - 4th Math session 1
May 14th - 4th Math session 2
These tests are all computer based, and are untimed, although they typically take about 2 hours.
Please reach out with any questions, comments or concerns.
Best,
Erica
