Clark Weekly News (10/18/24)
Growing Together
A note from your Principal
If you can't tell from the many emails this week, we are really ramping up this semester with events and opportunities. Character Counts and spirit week begin next Thursday, Bingo Night 11/1, Fall Dance 11/8, and lots of service activities and events with each student club. Pick what speaks to you and jump in!
I also want to express my gratitude for the many Clark families who were able to help with our students, grads, and community affected by the recent storms. We were able to meet some immediate needs with food and gas for our students who went many days with no power and we made a huge difference for a family of a grad who lost everything. The road to recovery for many will be long and we will be sharing other ways to help throughout the school year. I am blessed to work at a school with hearts this big who always hear the call.
In gratitude always,
Dr. Judd
We need your nominations! NEEDED BEFORE OCTOBER 29.

Attendance and Tardy Concerns- ACTION NEEDED
Below are some reminders from the handbook. Attendance enforcement will be a focus for this upcoming quarter.
Handbook Reminders:
· Students must attend all scheduled courses the entire day to participate in after-school and/or weekend activities.
· Tardiness is defined as an arrival to class after the designated start time. Tardies will be identified as excused/unexcused in FOCUS according to the same guidelines as absences.*
· To have an absence excused, a parent/guardian must email, call, or send a written note into Student Services within two school days explaining the reason for absence and the specific dates and/or times to be excused.*
*See page 10 in the handbook for accepted reasons for absences.
· If the student must leave campus before the end of his/her scheduled school day, the following steps must be taken:
1. See Student Services in Room 218.
§ Provide a note from the parent or receive an email form the parent that the student will leave early
2. Student Services contacts parent/guardian to verify the note or email. In the case the student needs to leave and has not provided a note/email prior Student Services will contact the parent/guardian to obtain permission to leave early.
3. Upon receiving permission to leave, the student and parent, if picking the student up, must sign out in the logbook located at the front desk.
§ Before a student can be released to anyone, authorization must be verified through Student Services.
4. Students scheduled to be in a class in the Clark building are NEVER to leave the building without the knowledge of a Clark employee.
October is Domestic Violence and Awareness Month
10 Warning Signs of Teen Dating Violence
- Using insults, intimidation, or humiliation
- Extreme jealousy, insecurity, or controlling behavior
- Isolation from friends and family
- Unwanted sexual contact of any kind
- Explosive temper or unusual moodiness
- Constantly monitoring social media activities or location
- Invasions of privacy; showing up unannounced
- Leaving unwanted items, gifts, or flowers
- Abusing alcohol or drugs
- Threatening or causing physical violence; scratches, bruises
“Even just one of these warning signs indicates a risk of teen dating violence and that you or the person experiencing this needs help. While some of these signs can be associated with issues other than teen dating violence, it’s important to act on red flags like these,” said King.
Parent involvement is a protective factor to safeguard teens against engaging in risky behaviors. Here are a few tips especially for parents:
- Talk honestly and openly with your teen about what healthy relationships look like and that violence (verbal, physical, or sexual) has no place in a healthy relationship.
- Know and recognize the signs of abuse, as well as the facts of dating violence.
- Look for changes in your teen's mood, appearance, or activities; which could be an indication that something is wrong or abuse is happening. This could be things, such as a drop in grades, unexplained bruises, or a change in friends or peer group.

Hispanic Heritage Month Announcements
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 through October 15. We will be sharing fun facts each day.
(10/14) Did you know that few Hispanic Americans have made a bigger impact in recent pop culture than Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda was born in 1980 in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City to Puerto Rican parents, who immigrated to New York to pursue academics. Miranda’s largest mark on culture came when his musical Hamilton opened on Broadway in 2015. Following the life of Alexander Hamilton, Miranda reimagined the beginnings of America told by all actors of color, whose ancestors didn’t have a say in how the country was built. The hip-hop musical quickly became one of the most profitable shows to ever hit Broadway.
(10/15)Spanish is the second most spoken language in the United States. Hopefully over the past month, you have had a chance to learn more about the important role of Hispanic Americans in our entire country.

Full handbook and code of conduct:
Safety reminder- p. 14 of our handbook states, "Headphones/ear buds must be used by any student playing audio within the common areas. For safety reasons, only 1 earbud may be used." We have given several warnings, but ongoing defiance with this will lead to referrals and consequences, including confiscation.
Student ID cards- Cards will be active from 7:00 am- 3:00 pm when school is in session. It is imperative that you have your ID on you at all times as this is a key to the building, used for textbooks check out, scanning into FOCUS if tardy, and more. Please remember that you may not open doors for anyone without an ID card, even if they are a good friend. Those without ID cards must come through the front doors and complete the online form at the front desk indicating you forgot or lost your ID. New IDs are $10 each. If you know you lost your ID please report to Mrs. Farias with $10 and have a new one printed.
Students SHOULD NEVER take photos of or video of ANY students or staff without their explicit permission. Beyond being a violation of our code of conduct, it could potentially also be a criminal offense. Having your cellphone on campus is a privilege.
