Principal's Message
Happy Friday Hoffman Families!
I hope everyone is having a great start to the school year! Yesterday, we held our drill day where we practiced 3 drills (fired, tornado, and lockdown). Each drill went very smoothly and students did a wonderful job of following adult directions. Staff members explained to students that we practice these drills to ensure everyone is safe during an emergency.
I have a few notes to share with families...
- Spirit Fridays - We are starting a new tradition this year at Hoffman and Henking. Each Friday, students and staff members are encouraged to wear school spirit wear. If your student doesn't have any Hoffman spirit wear, no problem! They can always participate by wearing Hoffman colors (Yellow and Black). If you are looking to purchase Hoffman spirit wear, I have linked a flyer to the PTA's spirit wear store. Also, our amazing PTA will be selling spirit wear at many of our school events this year.
- Upcoming Days Off - In the next two weeks we have two nonattendance days. Next Friday (9/27), we will have an institute day because staff members will be participating in professional learning. We will also have a nonattendance day on October 3rd.

Nurse Notes - Ms. Briones
As we start to enjoy the cool fall weather, it unfortunately also means the cold and flu season is upon us! I just want to remind parents/guardians that medications, either prescribed or over-the-counter (including cough drops), should NOT be sent to school with students without a medication authorization form on file with the health office. This form needs to be completed by their physician and also signed by a parent/guardian. Please find the form below and it can be emailed back. Once completed, parents/guardians can drop off medications to be kept in the health office.
As a reminder, your student should stay home if they have vomiting, diarrhea, or a temperature of 100.4F or above. They should be free of these symptoms for 24 hours without the use of medication. Absences can be reported by calling 847-998-5040. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Latin American and Hispanic Heritage Celebration
Latin American and Hispanic Heritage Month
Join us in celebrating Latin American and Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15! This month celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of people whose ancestors came from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean, and Central and South America to the fabric of the US. The 15th not only marks the beginning of Latin American and Hispanic Heritage Month but also the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua from Spain in 1821.
Latin American and Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
Joins us at Attea Middle School to Celebrate Latin America and Hispanic Month with a celebration on October 15th from 5:50-7:30. We're looking for all kinds of acts, music, dance, juggling, whatever it is! We are also looking for volunteers to prepare for the event, host an info table, display their art, etc. Anyone can come and enjoy the show! Let us know what questions/ideas you have!
Thank you,
LAHHX TEAM
Safety Reminders (Repeat from the 9/6 Hum)
- Traffic Pattern - Please make sure you follow the traffic pattern. We've had a few cars going the wrong way through our parking lot which causes challenges and safety concerns.
- Low Speed - When driving in our parking lot, please make sure that you are at a reduced speed (10 mph).
- Passenger Side Exiting - If it is possible, please have students exit vehicles on the passenger side. When students step out of cars on the driver side, they are standing in our parking lot with other vehicles going by. I understand that some families have car seats on the passenger side so this isn't always possible.
- No Students in the Parking Lot - Please remind students that they should not cut through our parking lot when walking to or from Harrison St. We would like all students to stick to sidewalks to avoid walking through our drop off and pick up traffic.
Thank you for your help with this,
Luke Larmee
Yearbook Cover Contest!
Enter the Yearbook Cover Contest
Do you have a student who is creative and full of school spirit? The yearbook committee is now accepting entries to the Yearbook Cover Contest. Winning artwork will be displayed in the 2024-25 Henking and Hoffman yearbooks. Please have your student bring their entry to school where it will be submitted to the front desk staff.
The rules (below) are meant to be simple and easy to follow. All kindergarten- through fifth-grade students may participate.
- Artwork must be original and not computer generated
- Colored pencils and markers work best. Younger students may want to consider cutting and pasting the school logo at the center of the page
- Artwork should be submitted on a blank 8 ½ x 11-inch piece of white copy paper. No paper with lines
- Artwork must be done vertically, not horizontally
- Write the student’s and teacher’s name on the back of the entry in pencil
- Use the space on the paper effectively. Have a central component and try to fill the page
- Please use appropriate words and imagery
- All work MUST be student produced
The overall winners will have their artwork displayed on the front cover of each 2024-25
yearbook.
