Westwood Junior High
May 16, 2024
Dear Westwood Families,
There are six short days until the end of the 23-24 school year. It has been a wonderful year to be a Westwood Wolf and I know it will end as well as it began.
In this final Wire of the year, I want to acknowledge our retirees, Coach Bristow and Mr. Price.
Coach Bristow has been a teacher in RISD for 16 years; 3 years at RISD Academy and 13 years at Westwood Junior High. He has been a social studies teacher, Boys Athletic Coordinator and PE teacher during his time at WWJH. Students always know that he is in their corner and that he will make them laugh and feel heard. He will be missed but will remain a part of this community as he drives our Wolf pups around in the bus.
Mr. Price has been the Choir Director at Westwood Junior High for 24 years. He was Mrs. Perez’ student teacher and quickly stepped into her shoes to take on the Director role. His choirs, under his leadership, have earned 62 UIL trophies as they are so successful. All Mr. Price’s students know that they will have a safe place to grow in their choral ability while in his program. In his own words, Mr. Price is retiring from the classroom but not from music. He will be missed and we wish him the best of luck on his next journey.
As our outgoing 8th graders prepare to begin their high school careers, we know that they are prepared and ready. You are always welcome at Westwood and have left an indelible impression that is treasured.
Thank you, students, teachers, families and community for your ongoing support of all Wolves.
Sincerely,
Katie Mottram
Principal

Multicultural Night Feedback
Thank you so much to all the families that helped make WWJH's Multicultural Night a huge success. We couldn't have had such an amazing event without the help of everyone that showed up, and worked hard to make their performance, food table, and activity the best they could be!
We would love to have your feedback so that we can improve the experience next year. If you would please click the link below and submit the feedback form so that we can grow! Also, if you have any photos/videos from the event we would love to have them to share with our students/community, and you can submit those at the bottom of the form.

UPDATES:
Boys and Girls Soccer:
The 7th and 8th grade girls’ soccer teams lead by Coach Schroeder, Coach Beahm, and Coach McAdams, finished the season as RISD Consolation Champions with victories against Forest Meadow Junior High and Apollo Junior High. We are so proud of our young ladies for a job well done!
Thank You:
Thank you, parents and families, for your support during the 2023-2024 sports seasons. You are an essential part of our success at Westwood Junior High and truly appreciated. We want to say thank you on behalf of all coaches and your athletes. The long hours you spend sitting in bleachers or standing watching us play our sport, even if it meant enduring unbearable weather conditions or missing your own work, and realizing the importance of sports and the life lessons they teach. Sometimes, we get so involved in the mental side of the game, our practices, and the actual competitions that we forget to recognize those who helped us along the way and the sacrifices made. That’s you, Westwood JH sports parents, and we appreciate you!
Thanks to Coach Chuck Bristow for your service to Westwood Junior High for 13 years!
~Coach Lockett and Coach Cervantes~

Junior High Physicals for 2024-2025 Athletic Participation
The UIL and the RISD require that student athletes receive a physical examination prior to participation in any sport. The RISD offers low cost physical exams for junior high students each spring. This includes current 6th graders who will be participating in athletics next year. These are basic physical exams that meet the requirements set forth by the UIL. If parents wish, they may take their children to their own physician. However, the doctor must complete the UIL physical form. If you did not receive a physical form, one may be picked up at any junior high, high school, or downloaded from the UIL website: http://www.uiltexas.org/athletics/forms and select “Athletic and Marching Band pre-participation physical evaluation form” under the Medical Forms. https://www.uiltexas.org/files/athletics/forms/PrePhysFormRvsd2024.pdf
The following schedule for physical examinations has been set up through local doctors and will be given at the Christa McAuliffe Learning Center.
Due to the large fluctuation in numbers of athletes each year, a short wait may be necessary. Examinations are available for both boys and girls. Students should wear shorts, T-shirt and tennis shoes. If parents are unable to attend with their child, students must bring permission letter with parent signatures. The Head Coach (or his/her designee) will be present at the time the physicals are given to assist the clinic staff. Please have the front page of the physical form (Medical History) filled out prior to arriving for your physical.
If you have any questions regarding physicals, please email Jessica Nelson, (Athletic Trainer at LHHS) at jessica.nelson@risd.org. If necessary, she may be reached at 469-593-1088. Jessica will be at CMLC on the exam date, therefore if you have questions please contact her before May 17th. There will be nobody available to answer questions in her office on the exam date.
