Tiger News
Another great week in 6th grade!
Student Led Conferences are coming up next week on Friday. Please check Skyward for sign-ups.
6th Grade Band will resume our normal schedule of M/W - Woodwinds, T/Th - Brass starting Monday the 27th
A Note for Ms. Hewitt's ESL students:
Last week students learned about the Civil Rights Movement including key participants. They learned to identify cause and effect relationships and how to summarize text.
This week students will be taking the KELPA practice tests to prepare for the KELPA which opens February 3, 2025. All students who were screened at the beginning of the year will take the test whether they receive services or not. This is a Kansas state requirement.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me and I'll be happy to answer them. In addition, I am available during parent conferences January 31, 2025 to answer questions as well.
Thank you
As a team, we have implemented an IXL challenge for the students. As they successfully master skills on IXL, they are keeping track of them on a recording sheet. For every 25 skills mastered, students have the opportunity to choose a prize from the IXL Prize Bin in their homeroom. Each classroom has some prizes in their bin already, but we could really use some help to add to the rewards. If you would be willing to contribute some prizes, it would be greatly appreciated.
Suggested prizes: candy, small trinkets and fidgets, special pens and pencils, stickers, stress balls, etc

Homeroom
Payne- We will work on the RACE strategy for writing and continue our vocabulary unit. We will also practice calculating Mean, Median, Mode and Range each week with out Estimation Jar. Each student should have a grade level appropriate chapter book that they are reading at all times. They are welcome to borrow one from the classroom library. This is the time of year when allergies, dry throats, and common colds ramp up. If you could send in a few boxes of tissues, hand sanitizer, or Clorox wipes that will be great! Thank you so much for supporting our classroom.
Phillips- We will use Reflex, IXL, and ALEKS to practice reading and math skills. Each student should have a grade level appropriate chapter book that they are reading at all times. They are welcome to borrow one from the classroom library and we will go to the school library again on 1/23 and 1/27. We have a new reading challenge an each student is responsible for reading 5 chapter books. Many students are still forgetting to charge their Chromebooks, a gentle reminder will be very helpful. The students have an ALEKS goal of 15 minutes per school day of practice and 5 new topics learned per week. You will start to see this being accounted for in Skyward. Please reach out if you have questions. Thank you for supporting our class.
