Our New Assistant Principal
Mrs. Monica Cooney
Muraski/Kinsner Families,
I am deeply honored and excited to be the new Assistant Principal of Muraski and Kinsner Elementary Schools this year! My name is Monica Cooney, and this is my tenth year working in Strongsville City Schools. Prior to leaving the classroom, I taught kindergarten and first grade, and for the past three years I have had the joy of serving as an Elementary Literacy Coach. I grew up in Strongsville and will forever call this community home. I am happily married to my best friend, Mike, and together we have two rambunctious doodles.
As a former student, and now educator, in this incredible community, I am committed to fostering an environment where every child can thrive academically and personally. I look forward to working with you and together helping your child(ren) achieve their goals and reach their fullest potential. It is going to be a great year together!
Welcome to Kinsner Elementary
Here are some photos from our PTA's popsicle event, which took place after New Family Orientation on Monday, August 12th. New students had the opportunity to play on the playground and interact with some of our returning students. Thank you to all those who attended or volunteered for the event! It's a great way to kick off the school year!

NEW Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
The car line has been moved back to the original design for the upcoming school year. The primary reason for this change has to do with safety concerns. Last year's car line looped around the visitor's parking lot and cut through a couple of crosswalks that families take to get to the main entrance. Without formal crossing guards, everybody needed to remain on high alert.
We're moving to a model that will greatly reduce the risk of a pedestrian related accident. Myself and a small committee of adult supports will be out there during the first few weeks to support the flow and communicate any necessary adjustments from the plan. Once we secure the route, we plan on reducing adult support and adding formal signage.
Kindergarten Orientation
Monday, August 19th
What is Kindergarten Orientation? Kindergarteners and their parents should attend the two hour orientation at Kinsner Elementary. There will be two sessions, one at 9:30 and one at 1:00 PM. The district will send you a letter with your assigned time. At orientation you and your child will meet all the Kindergarten teachers and the principal, visit classrooms, learn more about what the Kindergarten curriculum looks like in the classroom, and practice boarding the school bus. You will need to provide transportation for your child on this day, as it is not a regular school day for kindergarten students.
Kindergarten Connections
Tuesday, August 20th - Friday, August 23rd
What is Kindergarten Connections? Kindergarten students will not be assigned a formal homeroom teacher until the end of the first week. Kindergarten Connections is designed to ensure every full-day kindergarten student has a smooth transition into our school environment, while also making connections to peers and staff they will be working with throughout the year. During the first first few days of school, students participate in playful activities and interact with grade-level peers while teachers and staff members note their behaviors and interactions. Phonemic awareness skills, such as sounds of letters and basic phrases, are also assessed to gauge each child's foundational literacy abilities. Based on these observations and assessments, students are then placed into a classroom where they will thrive best academically and socially. This holistic approach ensures that each child's unique strengths and needs are considered, setting the stage for a successful educational journey from the very beginning. Click here to learn more!
